Anyone else's DC always want to "be" some else?

Or is it just mine?

DD is 3.4 and she seems to live in fantasy land. She almost permanently wants to "be" anyone from her brother to friend to Shrek to Mary (Mother of Jesus). I have to play along calling her by the correct name (which changes every few minutes) and in character.

I am trying to humour her but it has been going on for MONTHS and the novelty is wearing thin.

I want my little girls to just BE my little girl!!!!!!!

I feel your pain - my DS (4) is usually Buzz Lightyear but sometimes Ben 10 or Spiderman (despite never having seen either) and just sometimes he insists he's Guy Fawkes (don't ask ).

He even fell out with a friend at nursery because she refused to call him Buzz (poor girl) so now we've had to agree that he can only be different people in the house

Thanks God it isn't just us. DS is 13 months and starting to verbalise. Have had to tell DD that when he is awake, he, at least, has to be himself - the rest of us get nagged into being in character.

It is just so...wearing.

DD (3.5) spent months as Bambi and is now rarely herself - today has been Dora, Mummy Guinea Pig and a big dog who had to be taken out on a lead. What's the problem? I think it is fine. Although she does sometimes insist on putting her head in her bowl like a dog.

my Ds varies between a dragon, the groak (character from the moomins), a fireman or a horse...

A princess, a fairy, a fairy godmother, Mary...

I feel your pain too..

I did that too, and so did my little brother. We went into hospital once as characters in a story book.

Ahh, my girls are usually babies, hamsters, cats, dogs or some other little animal and my little lad is usally batman, indiana jones, spiderman or one of the animals if playing with his sisters.

The worst was when my DS insisted he would only answer to 'superhero girl' which lasted a few weeks, I used to shorten it to 'super' when we were out and about and other people could hear

I don't mind them using their imagination but we do make sure they are themselves during tea time etc.
