Sweetest/Weirdest Things You Do With Your DCs?

At 32 weeks preg with Number Two I don't have the energy to keep an updated record of things I do/he does with DS (2.5) Although TBH probably wouldn't bother either if I weren't preg - too much faff!

BUT I do think the following are really sweet (though possibly slightly weird?)

  1. We both have a fetish for the Property Porn pages (Houses of the Week) in The Week magazine, and can spend ages looking at the pictures, discussing our favourite ones, while I read out (using Lloyd Grossman voice) the descriptions of the houses in full...
  1. We're teaching DS to make the I Love You sign in Sign Language (I used to work at a school for deaf kids) and it's so sweet to watch him try to sign it back to us... he gets it totally wrong and tries so hard... adorable, really.
  1. While DH is getting dressed in the mornings, DS likes to play his electronic keyboard and instructs DH to 'dance, Daddy, dance!' and DH does this funny, naked bottom-wiggle around the bedroom that just cracks me up... I keep thinking 'how many other execs. are getting dressed in this fashion?!'

All probably bonkers, I know, but - maybe especially cos I'm preg? - I'm relishing these really sweet times before chaos descends on our household again..

Now you go, what sweet/weird stuff does your kid do that just makes you go all melty?

Well my ds is only 25 weeks, but at least once a day we take a nap together and he lies in the crook of my arm and looks up at me stroking my face until we both fall asleep. Tis lovely

Ds (4) likes to get up in a morning and come straight downstairs to dance to music. Usually Ocean colour scene (his choice!) though this mornings offerings was Doves. I'm usually in vest and pants so have to make sure dh doesn't open the cutains first thing when he goes to work .

We also play a very random word game, taking it in turns to say a word linked to the previous one, which makes no sense to anyone watching us given how young ds is.I can usually follow his train of thought!

I am using a travel stairgate at the top of the stairs at the moment which has mesh instead of metal bars, DS (16mo) crawls up the stairs and lunges his face straight into it to indicate that he wants to go through.

He also has a very cute attempt at the sign for "elephant"

A lovely part of our day is after ds's [15 months]bath. I lift him out in a warm towel and give him a quick dry as he tries to get on my lap for a breastfeed. Then when he's on I cover him up with another warm towel and watch him feed. Sometimes he's really sleepy and sometimes I sing silly songs that make him chuckle or laugh out loud! It's just so nice and a lovely rest before I have to chase him round the bathroom with his nappy/ vest etc!

My 19mo has recently discovered that he can also wield the power of the tickle. His understanding is pretty rudimentary, however, so his version of tickling goes like this: see some Mummy or Daddy flesh poking out between clothes - poke it with one finger while giving Mummy or Daddy mischievous, expectant look. Of course we will feign ticklish hysteria, which just makes him crack up laughing and thus makes us crack up laughing, which makes him 'tickle' us more. It's very silly, and very cute

Some more odd things I have thought of - lying in bed, he likes to crawl repeatedly over my head one way and then the other. Sometimes I blow raspberries on his tummy on the way.

Also, I have an old fashioned radio on the floor in his bedroom, which I put on when we are upstairs, I often turn it off with my foot when carrying DS, a few weeks ago I was watching him play with it (he likes turning the tuning knob and opening and closing the cassette deck) and suddenly he reached his foot up practically over his head to reach the on/off switch He obviously thought that you were supposed to use your foot to do it!

OTTMummA · 27/02/2010 19:59

i wolf whistle at him and he does it back, but humms it instead lol hes only 2!
he loves my hair aswell, so when he's sleepy ready for bed he lays on my side on the sofa and snuggles into my hair while i stroke his leg and back.

My four year old and 2 year old were walking along the road today holding hands and singing a made up song really loudly awwwwwww

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 01/03/2010 17:54

Face Mush.

Before I put DS in his cot he mushes his face as hard as he can into mine. v sweet.

Tee2072 · 01/03/2010 18:03

When I am feeding 8 month old DS a bottle he reaches up and strokes my cheek and pulls my ear. He only does this with me, never with his dad.

I always show him which Sesame Street character is on his current nappy and then sing him the appropriate song, so Rubber Ducky for Ernie, C is for Cookie for Cookie Monster, etc.

giveitago · 01/03/2010 19:10

ds 3.5 cuddle up together and I have to tell him minimum 3 stories from when I was little where I really made a mistake - he loves the thought of me getting into trouble when I was young.

We also do the Morcombe and Wise walking dance up the street to nursery.

He loves laughing.

fluffyguineapigs · 01/03/2010 19:20

My 9 month ds likes to suddenly attack me and gum my nose or chin. It's a bit soggy and euwww but it's a special moment we share

squilly · 01/03/2010 19:26

DD is now 9 but ever since she started school, 5.5 years ago, we've had Fridays as our 'Special Night'. It started out as a stealthy way of getting dd to do extra literacy/numeracy work through games, but she's too clever for me. She sussed it & now we tell stories, watch videos, cuddle, play on our ds's, whatever dd wants to do.

That's really the only rule for Special Nights....it's about the girl and what she wants.

I love it too as I get to curl up in bed with one of the people I love most in this whole wide world t'is magic.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 02/03/2010 07:15

I wish I had something lovely to report like the rest of the posts. Our dd is currently going through early puberty I think. She is like the girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead.
Her current favourite thing to do is grind the coffee beans that I've bought. She really thinks she works in a factory. The downside to this is the 10+ kgs of coffee in the freezer. Still, it's a small price to pay.

BelleDameSansMerci · 02/03/2010 07:31

My DD (2.5) asks for a "big, big cuddle" and I used to pretend that we'd run out and then find one in my pocket. She now "keeps" a special one in her pocket/up her sleeve for when I've run out.

We also do the "goat dance". We have a stuffed goat that plays "High on a hill there's a lonely goatherd" and waves its arms about. I pick her up and bounce her up and down to the music. This was much easier when she was smaller but I have to think that it's good for my arms!

OhFuck · 02/03/2010 07:39

DS (2.5) currently has a fetish for my belly and whenever he catches me getting dressed/coming out of the shower/exposing a few millimetres of flesh he goes all glassy eyed and asks if he can cuddle my tummy! He sometimes follows up with a huge wet raspberry.

He and his Dad have loads of daft games. Favourite of the moment is trying to kiss DP's ears, which DP can't tolerate due to extreme ticklishness. Inevitably ends up with DP squealing on the floor while DS sits astride his shoulders triumphantly.

Aubergines · 02/03/2010 07:47

Each night DH and I read DD1(3.5)and DD2 (14 months) their bedtime story in our big bed. After the strory DD1 always says "Daddy, you be the Gruffalo and me, DD2 and mummy will be the sleeping people". We then hide under the duvet together while DH prowls the room growling and then rips back the duvet to eat us. At this point DD2 gets v excited and starts growling and "eating" her sister who shouts " Oh no she is the gruffalo's child in disguise".

After that hijinx I say we have to be calm before bed and v strangely DD1 has started saying "ok, we will be courgette flowers and Daddy be a calm and quiet butterfly". She the lies v still and makes DH flap around her pretending to be a butterfly!

Finally I am made to "scan" her tummy with my mobile phone to check her baby is ok and is still a girl.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 02/03/2010 11:12

All my DC's love doing 'ekimoo kizzes' (eskimo kisses ) They love to snuggle close and rub noses.

DC3 also loves to burble my tummy.
