Co-sleeping, breastfeeding

My 4-month old breastfed DS still feeds every 1.5 - 2 hrs during the day and every 3-4 hrs at night. I absolutely don't mind feeding him that often, just wondering if other people had the same experience. Did it change with weaning (I haven't started weaning yet)?

We co-sleep which could explain why he feeds often at night I suppose. I'm not giving up either breastfeeding or co-sleeping any time soon but I'm just wondering when co-sleeping babies generally stop feeding at night? Do they have to be weaned off their night feeds or do they stop on their own?

Many thanks

I co-slept / sleep with my 19 month old. At 4 months mine was waking up for regular feeds too. He was sleeping through the night at about 8 months without any real efforts from me. Be assured that they wean by themselves . Mine did and I am sure every baby would do if we give them some time and patience! Hang on there!

DD1 - co-sleeping, stoppd nightfeeds at 5 months. Stopped breastfeeding herself fully at 11 months

DD2 - co-sleeping, still feeding regularly at night at 15 months. Stopped daytime feeding at 8 months.

Depends on the baby I think.

Mine stopped (night)bf at 4.
Probably not what you were hoping to hear?

hello, that sounds just like us, my daughter is 4.5 months and feeds every 2-3 hrs during the day, has a dream feed at about 11 then usually another during the night. however, I have found that popping her dummy back in during the night is sometimes all that she wants so she doesn't always need to feed, I just go with whatever she wants really. We also co-sleep but she is way over on the other side of the matress about a clear foot away from me.

My boy coslept and breastfed from day one, he did it untill age 2 1/2, then i temporarily put him in a bed next to me so he would leave me alone at night!
He weaned off the breast and then back in my bed, now he's 3

thanks for your replies everyone.
The reason I asked is bc DH got it into his head that DS can be moved out into the nursery at 6 months. If you ask me, this is not happening as long as he's feeding at night coz I'm not getting up to feed 3 or 4 times a night, or even once! And the way he's going I don't see him wanting to wean by 6 months.

However if he doesn't drop his night feeds by 12 months I'll have to wean him off them. That's if DH doesn't kick us both out of the bed of love by then! He seems to have this working class macho thing about 'we gotta make a man out of him' which I totally agree with but we differ drastically on when's the time to start. The way I see it all kids are mummy's boys/girls until at least the age of 3 and that's perfectly normal.

My approach is winning so far but DH can be obstinate..
