How can I relax and stop feeling guilty?

I've just had a very rare day all to myself. Dh took the dcs to MIL for the afternoon so I could relax and do a few things I don't normally get to do with 2 dcs around. I have spent the entire afternoon feeling guilty and ended up spending most of my time tidying and designing invites for dds birthday. Now I'm sat watching TV and on internet I feel like I'm being naughty and should be doing the washing. ARGHH, why can't I just relax and enjoy myself! They're due back in 15 minutes.

you have to stop feeling your purpose is to serve others

But in a way my job is to serve others, I'm a sahm, so my job is looking after the dcs, cleaning, cooking etc. My dh works full time and does his share of housework and looking after dcs, guess I feel guilty because he's not getting anytime to himself. Although he does always say because he only sees dcs a few hours a day he really apprecites that time, so I guess he's enjoying his day with them. I enjoy my time with them, but would like to relax and enjoy my time away from them too.

well if you come back to this , I do know what you mean. But please don't forget you in all of this. Your dh doesn't love you because you serve others and nor do your dcs.

They love you because you are who you are. Not some servant or cleaner or anything like that but good old hmmmSleep.

and everyone deserves a break from their day to day life, whatever it may be. Like your dh, I work full time and for me, a break is being with the dcs as I miss them during the week and don't see them much.

if you find it hard just being at home without doing anything, take yourself out and do something you don't get to do often without the dcs - like swimming or something

I leave for work at 0630 monday to friday with one or either of my toddlers clinging to my leg crying "Mummy, you're not goig to work AGAIN, are you?"
I admit, it's my choice to work, but OMG, the GUILT!!!

it's a woman's curse, guilt (I think)

Look at it this way...your dh works full-time, for him looking after the dc's is a break from his job. Your job is to care for the dc's and keep the house running (just running, not like a photo spread in Good Homes or anything) and you need a break from that too.

Please don't feel guilty having time doing something for yourself, even if it's something as mundane as watching tv or MN-ing (MN, mundane?). It's your break. Repeat that to yourself
