Hi all

Any tips for a nervous mummi! I need to cut our DS hair. I am a bit reluctant to cut with any type of scissors, and we have recently just bought a wahl clipper set (not used it yet!) has anyone got any handy tips on how to clipper with a bit more ease than anticipated, our DS is a wriggly sort and also would probably try and look at clippers if I came near him with them!

Help and advice realy appreciated!

:D

We "do" all three boys with clippers - ds2 (5) is the only one who has never liked it, but is fine as long as he is able to hold a flannel over his face so he doesn't get hair near his mouth (!) We call them the ticklers rather than the clippers and take it slowly and gently.

When they're very small we found it easier to lay them down on a towel for most of the haircut then distract with toys - much easier than sitting them up. A two person job though I'm afraid!

Oh and try not to have the hair too long before using the clippers as it pulls a little - if his hair is quite long you could use scissors to roughly cut the longest bits before shaping with clippers.

ahhhh thank you lovemynano that is fabby advice.... I wouldn't say his hair is massively long doesn't have it in his eyes yet! But me and my hubby to be could probably work something out I am sure!

Thanks again... if anyone else also has some handy tips please do comment.

Personally I'd snip with scissors whilst he's asleep. You can get a bit done at a time - does he still have that really fine hair?

When DS was a bit older, I could glue him to the telly whilst i snipped away.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 11/02/2010 22:19

Re ref to glue.

Not literally

EccentricaGallumbits · 11/02/2010 22:21

Do it while he's asleep. much easier than trying to distract him.

hi all!

Thanks for the comments. Its still fairly fine, just like his dads (and I am always doing his dads hair with clippers!).

I would love to do it whilst he is asleep, but like his mummy his is a light sleeper, so would wake up as soon as we entered his room! plus he also wriggles alot even when sleeping, so it may just have to be try and entertain him etc...

Oh gosh, this is turning into my worst nightmare! ahhhhh!

Any more handy tips greatfully received please!!

at that age, all I ever did was trim the front so it wasn't in their eyes, I'd leave him alone personally!

If you are planning on doing clippers all over though, it wont be that hard even if he does wriggle a bit, but def best to have another pair of hands. I do 2 of my boys with clippers, one with scissors, and it is the scissor one that is a nightmare!

AbiBub · 12/02/2010 11:47

hee hee! yeah its not the fringe that is bothering him, that bit isn't that long, its round the back and on the sides (tickling his ears!).

I think I am just going to have to try it this evening (she says nervously!) when my man get home, we could do it before little ones bath!

Yep still nervous! wish me luck!

Again - any more comments / tips and advice please do post!

Many Thanks

ok peeps. In the end my partner and I decided that for the next few times will just trim our DS hair with scissors, it was only really some fluffy long bits that were tickling his ears and also some random bits at the back of his hair that needed it!

So... we did it yesterday, my man kept him entertained, and I trimmed away, it literally took a couple of minutes, he turned here and there, but was amazingly quite upbeat about having his hair cut!

We will wait till he is after one before we attempt the clippers, watch this space....
