Does anyone know how you can keep your toddler away from your lcd tv aside from putting it on the wall

erm, considering my toddler has scratched ours with a small postman pat, I will watch this thread with interest

Trying to avoid making it seem like something they're not allowed to touch might help, IME it's the things they're not allowed to go near that attract most interest

pick up, put down on other side of the room, say 'don't touch, repeat x 100000.

He'll get it eventually.

I asked about this recently when we were about to get one. People didn't have a lot to say, but we put ours high up initially and now have moved it down onto the old tv table and so far so good (she says, touching wood madly...) DS did nearly get it with his mini broom the other day by accident but at 22 months is starting to respond to, "STTOOOOPPP!" much better now! Good luck!

Ours went on the wall when we got it, our old telly before that was smeared with all sorts of food/snot etc so we decided not to take the chance!

Not sure really, other than treating it like any other "don't touch" item. We decided to put off getting a new television until both boys are old enough to know better (when is that? I think maybe 18?? )

I have seen on the internet that some americans are using a long safety gate infront of the television- like a room partition, you can buy the as a play pen, apparantly. I cant believe in this day and age there is not a furniture company that promotes child friendly furniture

We used a big fireguard (from Argos I think) in front of the TV cabinet - the top of it was level with the bottom of the TV, and it meant they couldn't get at the DVD player etc underneath, and kept them at more than arm's length from the TV. Much easier than saying no all the time!

boobymama · 17/02/2010 20:12

doodle drawers did you secure the fireguard to the wall or have it free standing, as we cannot find a freestanding one and as we are in a rented property we cannot secure to a wall

We put a couple of toy boxes in front of ours so they couldn't reach the screen or open the cabinet and press buttons
