Bambinex Bamboo Nappies - Nappi Nippa??

OK so I understand poppas and velcro but what is a nappi nippa?? Clearly first time mum-to-be and just starting to look into nappies, I had no idea it was so complicated!

Bambinex top rated on mumsnet so drawn to them but will it just depend on how my baby reacts to them? Not sure if I should get a starter pack in advance but don't want to blow £160...

ooh you can get much better starter packs than that! Try cheeksandcherries or twinkleontheweb - more choice and variety all round. Better prices too.

A nappinippa is a little 3 pronged rubbery/plastic thing which basically grasps the loop of the terry fabric with little teeth and keeps it on - very clever little thing!

Thanks for the reply - there is so much to research - I thought nappies would be one of the straight forward choices!!

I have used the bambinex size ones with DD#3 with motherease airflow wraps and find the combination fantastic. I use the applix version of the bambinex and find them great.

I think the top rating for Bambinex must be pretty historical. I don't think I know any real fluff addicts who love them.

Hmm so what is top of the charts these days Swampster? And do they cost a small fortune to be any good? I don't want to pay for a trend just something that holds in the poo and wee without making me feel guilty about destroying the world!

Top of the poops? Whatever you do, don't shell out for big a pack of all the same nappy unless you know you'll love them.

DS1 was in cloth nappies six years ago. DS3 just turned one. It is a whole different nappy world now and much more fun.

Pockets and all-in-ones now actually work (couldn't make them last more than a few minutes with DS1) and are easier to use than two-part systems. Birth-to-potty nappies are pretty clever things. And there is a thriving second-hand nappy market, which means you can try loads of different types relatively cheaply, and sell them on for not much less than you paid for them.

I think both twinkle and cheeks and cherries do great starter kits with a variety of nappies in them.

I am still impressed with Bumgenius flips, so simple and easy for a first timer but they work, quick drying and still BOGOF at Fillyourpants.
Other faves are Itti Bitti, Bumgenius pockets, and Coolababy.

Thanks ladies, will get some more advice at one of the many ante- everything classes I've signed up for (first timer clearly!)

My council also give out vouchers and have a nappy awareness morning to learn about the different types of cloth nappies - I never thought I'd be signing up for something like that but I need the advice big time!

I use the Bambinex nappies with ME wraps and they have been great (on to second baby now). I got the size 2s, which you can still use on little babies by folding the front down and using the nippas. I got the nippa only ones, but have one popper one and you can still use the nippas on the popper ones (giving the best of both worlds). I have found them very absorbent, and great as a night nappy. I have tried other styles, never got on with pockets - they always leaked. MEOs are OK, but far too big for little babies. In fact only terry bamboo squares are comparable (but they are a faff to fold)
