Using wipes on baby girls?

We switched from cotton wool + water to wipes on DS when he was about six weeks old, and are about to do the same for DD at the same age. However, i'm a bit apprehensive about whether it's okay to use wipes on a baby girl at all, as you have to wipe, erm, inside their bits. I suppose it must be okay as i'm sure I would have heard by now if wipes are only used on baby boys?! I guess i'm hesitant as i know you're not supposed to use soap etc in that area, but i suppose baby wipes are very gentle.

Thoughts? - and obviously i appreciate there are those who wouldn't be using wipes at all at this stage, or for months beyond, but with 22 month old DS to contend with too, i'd like to just take one pack of wipes out and about for both of them.

Thank you

I used wipes on dd from birth (can't stand cotton wool feel). Her undercarriage is fine 8 years later, and trust me, I see enough of it to know.

Agree with kreecher. Girls undercarriage is fine with wipes. Cotton wool makes my teeth itch.

Oh okay, good - i suspected i was being a bit overcautious. And you don't have to use extra sensitive wipes or anything?

Thanks for your replies!

I use the frangrance free ones on both DD@s from birth, but only cos the smell of wipes makes me boak

MumGoneCrazy · 01/02/2010 10:58

I used the sensitive ones on all 4DC
3 of which are girls but only because i have eczema and have very sensitive skin and they were all born with very dry skin so used them just incase they did as well.

Use cloth wipes. Much nicer

Thanks everyone - will use extra sensitive wipes to be on the safe side.

Threetimesmummy - would be interested in cloth wipes, but cannot face adding any more to the vast amounts of laundry i do every week as it is!
