Anyone done an NHS degree?

I am thinking of applying to do a Radiography degree but the financial implications are tying me up in knots. Dp works atm and earns around £13000 a year, he hates his job btw and would like me to take over in the earning stakes.

Instead of getting yet another dead end job I have decided to go back to uni. But for the life of me I can't work out if:

a)We could survive on NHS bursary + student loan + tax credits + housing benefit alone (if dp stayed at home and looked after the dc's 6,3,3 months atm)

b)We would be better off with dp staying in his job and us claiming childcare allowance (would be very complicated as dp works shifts that are 4 on 2 off, plus neither of us drive)

c)Dp (or me) looks for a 16 hr job, in order to get more tax credits whilst I am studying. I have experience of care work and imagine it would be quite easy to do a couple of NHS bank shifts, but tough on me wrt to studying plus kids plus work.

AAAAaaagh anyone know anywhere that would even advise me? Or am I better off appltying and working out the best logistics once I know firm figures?

Hi
I'm doing a radiography course. I get a bursary but many on my course do not. They will look at your partners income but he will be considered as a dependant if he's not working. You can get a childcare allowance as part of the bursary. The student loan adds a little to the bursary so it helps but you have to repay it when you earn above a certain amount. I set up a business doing ironing and clothing repairs so I can claim working tax credit, for some reason only known to the tax office by bursary is disregarded so it's not included when I tell them how much I have earned over that tax year. It is really difficult to do shifts and be on placement though as the placements are 9-5. The course is really demanding as there's alot to learn. I enjoy it though.
