hiya ladies.

i have a 2yr old ds and 1yr old dd, they have been plagued by nappy rash forever now and dd began bleeding it was so bad, no nappy or cream helped, a friend offered me a bambino mio to try out and lo and behold one change later dd was more comfortable, a lovely mum on another forum i use has given me a huge amount of nappies,

I have 10 bambino mio wraps i believe, velcro covers iyswim and a massive black bag of muslin like thingys? and also have 9 kooshies which are thick and have a flap in, some terry toweling pads, i have 200 disposable liners and some bambino washing stuff.

Now what do i do?? my friend who knew what she was doing has moved away and im soo confused, dd is far comfier in these and ds is being potty trained, please help me banish pampers.

see here for nappy folds.

The wraps obviously go over the top and don't need to be changed each time unless really damp.

The terry toweling pads are probably boosters for extra absorbancy.

The liners keep poo off the nappy and can be binned.

Washing stuff can be added to detergent in washing machine to sanitise them (although not totally necessary)

Kooshies don't get very good reviews, but I have never tried them.

I think bambino mio paper liners may be flushable actually...

thanks so much, my grandma visited and she managed to put together a kooshie and dd is currently trying one out, she seems comfy but i much prefer the fit of the bambinos on her.

off to practice folding before dd needs a change!

I think the Bambino Mio nappies are called pre-folds and I'm wondering if you have Mio wraps you might have these nappies too (the muslin thingys). They are rectangles with a thicker strip down the centre third.

Have a look on the NCT or Toys r us website as they both sell mio packs to identify what you have got. Then you can search for more info about folding.

It's a little bit of trial and error to see what fits best but just have a go and take a change of clothes for DD out for the next few days in case you have a leakage.

Just pop the liner on top of the folded nappy, it is just there to catch poo and to act as a barrier to protect the skin from urine. Personally, I prefer to use fleece liners as I got on better with them and I don't have to buy more .

You can use the additional booster pads if the nappy is soaking through too quickly, to improve absorbancy; but bear in mind that you will be needing to change your DD more frequently than when in disposables anyway.

I used to add boosters between the nappy and wrap IYSWIM for bedtime nappies, rather than putting it on top of the nappy.

ok i think im getting there, ive copied a fold from the videos which instructed me to put the disposable liner inside the muslin thingy, it does have the thicker strip down the middle. The lady who gave them to me said its the bambino mio birth to potty kit.

Bear in mind that paper liners can be quite irritating on the skin. If you feel they're too, well, 'paper'-like, then you might want to try either fleece (these need to be washed) liners or a spunlace liners.
We use spunlace (Tots Bots make nice narrower ones - so they don't stick out from the nappy) and they're really great! No need to scrape the poo off for washing, just flush them down the loo along with the contents .

elk4baby · 29/01/2010 14:08

Oh, btw, you don't really need a liner every single time really. Only when you think DD is likely to do a no.2. If she's quite regular, you'll know when to put the liner in and when can go without.

It sounds like they have ammonianitis which is when the nappy area gets infected and ends up bleeding - metanium is great and I have to say a disp for about 3 days. I found the cause to be citrus fruit with mine - cut them out, get it healed and you could be fine.

Steer clear of paper liners when like this as makes it worse as they stock to the sore bits and hurt them when you try to get them off!

Its not the type of nappy - its the cause of the rash which is the problem. If the nappies worked fine before then stock with them and figure out a) if citrus fruit or b) something else acidic is causing it.

octo- metanium is a miracle worker on ds but nothing has helped dd!!!

we have now worked out her toilet routine and sorry to be lazy but she has a pampers put on the minute she wakes and removed after her ginormous poo, which appears the minute shes in the highchair for breakfast! im just not ready for dealing with that on cloth, but so far all redness, even pinkness has vanished!

very impressed, and thanks for all the help, easy once you get the hang of it!
