11 mo DS is knackered. He was up half last night (bastard teeth). I've tried everything to get him off to sleep and now he's in his cot screaming. I feel terrible but what can I do? If I go in it just winds him up more. I'm about to cry.

Take him out in the pram and trundle about till he sleeps?

OhFuck · 27/01/2010 14:09

Make yourself a cuppa and if he's still howling go and get him and give him a cuddle. He's probably knackered but can't sleep because he's sore. Then get some books and read to him in a dimly lit room. If he doesn't go to sleep immediately at least you'll get some peaceful time.

I've given in and he's on my lap. I took him out this morning but I live in a flat (upstairs) so its a PITA. I think he just hates his cot!

I'm in the same position with DD (13 months). She's thankfully just settled and getting some much needed sleep. I would leave him there for a bit while you calm down, if he's still not settled after that I would get him up again and try to distract him for a while before trying again. Or could you take him out in buggy or the car to see if that would settle him?

set yourself a time limit, say to yourself. If he is overtired he will need at least xx minutes to wind down. If he is not alsleep by then, then something else is wrong so go I will go and get him and give him a cuddle.

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 27/01/2010 14:12

take him to bed with you?

NinthWave · 27/01/2010 14:14

Will he go to sleep on your lap if you sit/lie on the sofa with him, something soothing on TV/radio? Sometmes this is the only was my DS will nap (he's 2.5). Once he's asleep I lay him on the sofa and sneak away

boundarybabe · 27/01/2010 14:14

thanks ladies. he has a tendancy to wind himself up into a frenzy... I've never left him to cry it out so no idea how it would last!

he's asleep on my shoulder now, the little -monster- angel.
