It's DS2's 1st birthday next month.

He has too many toys already as he has all of DS1s toys plus ones he was bought for Christmas.

He has plenty of clothes as he also is still in DS1s handmedowns mostly.

He already has (DS1s) a pushalong cart, ride on scooter, wheelybug.

His grandad bought him a steiff bear when he was botn.

I would like to get him something special that in years to come we can say was his 1st birthday present (to make up for the guilt associated with second child neglect .

Any ideas?

Photo album (perhaps one of those with frame at the front) which you add photo to every year, just DS2 on his own? Don't know about you but we have far fewer photos of DC2 than DC1, and certainly not as many on their own....

I'm not a Christian but I like the photo album idea.

Yes, there are a lot less photos of DS2!

My father in law always get our children one of these enamel boxes when they are born, I think they're lovely! You can get them inscribed with a personal message to. I love the 'guess how much I love you' range they are doing at the moment. They are quite pricy though, so it depends how much you are wanting to spend.

I got a piece of small antique silver.

No idea about the present, we are getting our DD1 a slide for the garden for her 1st bday later this week because like you the house is already bulging with toys from christmas.

But, I am planning to write her a letter on nice paper and in my bestest handwriting, telling her all about the past year, what she likes, what she has done, how I feel etc, etc, all the memories we have had together and I am going to put it in her memory box. My plan is to do it every year on her birthday. I might persuade DH to do it too. My dad died when I was little and I would have LOVED something from him in his own words telling me about our relationship.

Just an idea! Or get him something small and put some money in a bank account for him - he would DEFINITELY appreciate that when he gets older!

I don't know much about wine (other than I like drinking it), but how about a bottle of wine from either this year or the year he was born that will be ready to drink on his 18th/21st birthday?
Might need a bit of research into wine vintages though, you don't want to end up giving him a very expensive bottle of vinegar.

Ah, these are lovely ideas. Thank you.

Would love to write a letter but it's making me a little bit weepy just thinking about it!

An Atlas. We bought one for our daughter, which has been published in the year of her birth, as a snapshot of what the world was like when she was born.

A star! My dgs other grandparents had a star named after him.It came with a framed map showing its location in the universe. It reall eclipsed the Fisher Price circus train and cheque that I gave him

What about a lovely trunk or box to store keepsakes such as drawings, photos, and any special childhood bits.
