Has anyone been to Nippers hairdressers in Exeter?

Hi, My daughter has very thick hair in a bob style. She usually goes to an adult salon closer to home. She has the same hairdresser and she does a fantastic job. All I need to do is blow dry it normally after her bath, and it always falls in a lovely shape.
She needs it re-shaping every 2 months, and the salon is very expensive. £20 for a cut and blow dry.
I've looked at the Nippers hairdressers in Exeter, who are a childrens hairdressers, with DVD's to watch etc. It is half the price for a cut and blow dry. I'm thinking of giving it a try, but I'm not sure how good they are. If anyone has been there, please can you let me know if they're any good, as it would save a lot of money. Thanks.

Hi, I have not been myself but my friend took her 2 year old dd and said it was brilliant and her hair did look lovely.

MilaMae · 20/01/2010 22:35

My 3 have always had their hair done there as 1 of mine was scissor phobic, they are brilliant with them.

My dd 5 has long curls down to her bottom so v diff to your dd. We always have Julie as she puts in the exact long layers she needs and my dc always loved her.

My twin boys 6 have long hair too(not as long as dd) 1 is thick but their hair is kind of surfy in style. They do very good cuts(I've mostly only had Julie though) maybe not adult salon standard but they certainly won't wreck your daughters hair.

I'd definitely give it a go.

Didn't know you were in this neck of the woods

My cousin was visiting from Chichester at the end of last year and took her little girl, who hated even having her hair brushed (3yrs old). Cousin said it was brilliant. Lovely experience for DD and a good cut.

My DD also had her hair in a bob (until I persuaded her to grow it long) and they always did an excellent job of it, so much so that I had people asking where she had it done. Only stopped going because found it expensive and it's a nightmare to get to (Quay car park across very very busy road, not fun with double buggy plus 4 year old)

has any one been to nippers in exeter recently ive heard mixed reviews and my children are desperate for haircut ive tried so many mainstream hairdressers with very little success please help!!!

belindarose · 05/03/2012 21:26

We went to Nippers in Exeter last week with DD (2.6). She was extremely reluctant to get a hair cut and we knew it was going to be a battle. I have to say, it was a success, but probably not really down to any child/people skills on the part of the hairdresser. Really, the only thing that made it work for us was the trance like state the Peppa Pig DVD induced. The toys were grotty and the place looked pretty run down.

But we were pleased with DD's first haircut and the staff seemed to tolerate screams quite well. We won't go there again because I think she'll cope with a normal place next time.

is it very busy would perfer to go on a quiet day as i not sure how my ds 2 will cope as it will b first hair cut were the staff not great then? ooo im unsure whether to try there heard so many different things one friend swears by it but has sed to see a certain stylist but i feel uncomfortable asking for a stylist when we havent been before oh wot a dilema just for a haircut haha

belindarose · 05/03/2012 22:00

We made an appointment on Saturday morning for later that day. It wasn't busy while we were there. I'm glad we went, for a first cut. The DVDs were definitely a hit, and the chairs are cute - seats from an old fashioned carousel I think. DD sat in an aeroplane (tied in with reins!). She cried at first and clung on to me, but the stylist managed to get started anyway and once the DVD was on she was okay. She was delighted by her balloon afterwards.

mimi1234 · 05/03/2012 22:06

was the hairdresser friendly my ds is extremely shy was very worried how he will b with a stranger so close to him would u say its worth going to get them used to it? sorry about all the question just so unsure

belindarose · 05/03/2012 22:10

She wasn't friendly really. I don't remember her name though, sorry. She was just quick and efficient, which was helpful! I think it was worth going for us because the novelty (of the dvd!) just surprised her enough to get her to tolerate the haircut. She's been playing hairdressers ever since, actually, although won't admit she liked it! I don't known if I recommend it, but am pleased with the haircut and it was an okay first experience.

mimi1234 · 05/03/2012 22:15

think i will sleep on it maybe attempt just the one on wednesday see how we get on i think the dvd idea is brillant and hopefully will be enough of a distraction (hoping) will let you no how i get on

belindarose · 05/03/2012 22:23

Sorry I'm not much help really! I think they could be amazing, but they were okay. Got the job done though, and we had been dreading it for ages. Good luck anyway!

mimi1234 · 07/03/2012 20:37

just thought i let you know we gave nippers ago today have have to say i was pretty impressed the lady was lovely really good with dd very patient with him she did mention they were having the place decorated at the weekend (may explain it looking bit rundown) the young girl we had was really nice cant remember her name but she was blonde with curly hair think she said she had two boys must depend who you get i think i will stick to having her she done a great job smiles around :)

belindarose · 07/03/2012 21:22

Oh great! Glad it was a good experience for you. Overall it was for us too, and DD loves her new haircut. She ASKED for it to be washed tonight, after 2.6 years of screaming everytime it had to be done. A breakthrough!

4noisyboys · 17/09/2012 12:09

I take my kids here always, Kirsty is loved by them and the atmosphere is like going into someones home, lots of toys, gets cuts, its the most relaxed way to have your kids hair cut ever!
