Do i di it gradually or just go for it? he's 14 months. I thought it was a good idea to start now rather than later so that i would be causing myself less work in the long run. But i have absolutly have no idea how to do this effectivly. I tried doing it for a week but he screams at me until i give up and give him it? how do i get round this hurdle? is it time for bribery already?

i just explained to dd that as she was getting older now, she will have to stop but that she could have it as a treat at bedtime

i also let her have it for naptime if she was in her cot

i just went for it but i'm stubborn brave like that
i can put up with screaming you see, it doesn't phase me as long as i know she's not hungry/hurt

leave it in his cot and distract, distract, distract

TBH, 14 months seems young to give up a dummy. If you could up with it for a little longer, you could do what my parents did with me and say Santa needs to give it to another little boy, and he will bring him some presents in return for it. If this is too long, maybe it's time for a visit from the dummy fairy?

You should give a dummy up in the daytime at age 1, as dummy addicts often prefer to suck than speak.

coldtits its funny you mention that, as i noticed today that he'l only babble when he has the dummy in, Its as if he thinks he can only talk with it in. I feel he still needs it a bedtime though as he's still teething and uses it as a teether as well as a soother.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, i'll give all your tips a go.
