So what chores do your DC do?

I have noticed that lots MNers have children who do chores at home and I am looking for ideas and advice.

My DC have to tidy and hoover their own rooms once a week, and will (mostly) lend a hand if asked, but what else could they do?

Oh, and do you pay them for doing chores?

upahill, re: the stressing bit, that is me!

As DH is useless at practical tasks, there's not much hope of them learning anything from him He probably could chop wood, but we don't have a wood burner.

I think I will try to get them started on laying the table and clearing it. Stacking the dishwasher is one of DH's little jobs, but I seem to spend more time emptying it than him. Same with putting away clothes, which he never gets right, hence cries of despair when no-one can find their own socks, etc. GRRR!

Ooh perhaps he could chop some for us then .

Laying the table is really easy so might be a good way of getting used to the notion of everyone playing a part. I mean I loathe sorting laundry myself so can understand where ds is coming from.

To be fair, they are pretty good at helping out with all sorts of things when asked and do their rooms each week without much moaning.

I would just like some of the things to be done without me having to ask!

I've started to talk to DC1 like he talks to me at times (childish I know but I've got to amuse myself sometinmes!!)

So when he is running like a crazy fool stresing 'muuummmmm!! Where's my phone, itouch, whatever' I just say 'Dunno' and carry on what ever I was doing. I get from him 'Don't you care?' The answer of course is 'No not really'

Drives him bonkers but hey I don't expect him to look after my stuff and he is old enough and ugly enough to look after his own. Flippin heck I'm on one this afternon I'dbetter get to work and see some more stroopy teenagers ther (at least I get paid for seeing them! ]

Ha I likemy word Stroopy it is better than what I meant, which was of course stroppy!

Bigtilly i always have to ask. The only one that will come in from school and get cracking without being asked is DD2 like i said, teenagers ... intrinsically lazy

Mine are 10 and 11. They don't get paid for chores.

Their main chores are cooking and laying the table, each week one will help cook for one meal a day, while the other lays the table, then the next week they switch jobs. They also have to put their clothes away after they are washed, and tidy occasionally.

We picked cooking as I think this is the most important job to teach them - most of the others are simply chores, but cooking is a skill and one I want them to learn.
