Right I have had enough of dd's hair...

She has fine, straight, thin hair. It's not even very long (shoulder length). And yet every morning I try to brush it, she runs away, she cries, I get cross. I know it hurts her but it still makes me cross. It is the worst part of my day.

I've tried keeping it in plaits all day and night, it does help but the short bits that escape still get tangled up. I use detangler spray. I have tried conditioning it every night. Now I want to cut it.

Can anyone suggest a nice hairstyle for a 5-year old which is quite short but still girly enough that she will like it? It grows very slowly so I don't want to make any horrible mistakes!

How about bobbing it to chin length?
I have a similar problem with DD, except her hair is curly and fine.... I usually end up wetting it before combing/brushing really gently, whilst she is occupied watching cbeebies or eating a biscuit...

But I hate it too!

My dd was a nightmare about getting her hair brushed as well.
Short bob is the answer. DD had one of those ones that are graduated at the back , no fringe -she looked so sweet.

DD has hair like this. It is just one big tangle in the morning - and she was terrified of having it washed. We used to keep it bobbed to chin length and it was cute but she was desperate for a longer style. She is now 7. Her hair is quite long now and it is always in plaits - especially at night. It gets plenty of conditioner when it is washed and blow dried straight.
I now actually prefer the long hair. It seems easier to manage (because you can tie it up) and it is more versatile.
Good luck!

Chin length bob here too (no fringe). Much easier to deal with, only disadvantage is it needs cutting more often.

You could try that business of replacing shampoo with conditioner when you wash it.
Has to be a conditioner that is water soluble . ( not one full of silicone )
Think the Original Source ones qualify.

I've been putting Elnett hairsrasy on DD to try to stop lice. Every morning her hair is lovely and soft with no tangles , and she has hair like a bush.

Tangle teezer. Changed our lives, truly

alarkaspree · 15/01/2010 19:26

Tangle teezer sounds fantastic. But doesn't appear to be available in the US. Damn.

Thank you for the other suggestions. I will see if I can pluck up the courage to try cutting a chin-length bob over the weekend. Hairspray sounds bizarre idea but okay, will give it a go!

I got my tangle teezer from ebay, have just had a look and they seem to do them on Ebay.com

Saved my dds life! A little bit of moulded plastic has restored calm to our house of a morning (nearly)! Have a few long layers through the back helps loads too.
