leapfrog learn & groove or Jumperoo?

Need something to entertain mr groucho (ds) wo is 19 weeks. He has door bouncer which he likes, but doesn't bounce in it (he doesn't really get what to do.) But he likes standing upright and being entertained (me handing hi toys, putting in mouth and then throwing on floor, repeat 30 times!)

Anyway, been looking on ebay at Jumperoo's, but not sure we can afford one (they still go for £60/70 on there)

Saw the leapfrog activity station, which is much cheaper. It gets great reviews on amazon, just wondered if anyone here had one and what they thought?

I bought (like a fool) a new jumperoo for my DD BUT... she absolutely loved it and I can honestly say it was the best £80ish I have ever spent on my own sanity .

She has played in the leapfrog activity station at a friends house, but was not as keen - the jumping was the key thing!

I think there is a cheaper hop 'n' pop or similar available that might be a good alternative?

I am also planning on selling mine if you're anywhere near Huddersfield/Sheffield? Would be happy for a bit less than the ebay going rate as I am too arse lazy busy to list it and would save me the hassle!

I am in Leeds!

DD is 10 mths has a jumperoo and loved it, but now that she has a walker too, she is very confused that it doesn't bounce and even when she is standing holding on to things she tries to jump! But we got ours second hand - try ebay or local car boots before buying 1st hand is my advice!

DS, 7 months, has a learn and groove and loves it, but he's had it for about 2 months and really is just now 'getting' it. Meaning he understands if he pushes buttons things happen. Before I had to sit with him and push things and he would watch the lights.

Now I can put him in it and he entertains himself for up to about half an hour in it.

DS3 had a jumparoo, it is fantastic. HE was entertained while I tidied up and he occasionally fell asleep in it. Worth the money.

We have a jumperoo, DS1 loved it and DS2 is bouncing happily as I type!

I am getting rid of a Fisher Price hop and Bop if you are interested....
hop and pop

I just haven't got round to doing anything about it yet !!!!

Contrasting view:

Was bought a jumperoo for dd2 (9 months). She tolerates it for about 5 minutes only.

Can I advise that you must try before you buy. No sense in investing in something that isn't going to work for your LO.

Incidentally the Jumperoo is huge, doesn't fold down and is a typically annoying gift from MIL. I don't think its worth the money or space. Personally I want to get rid of it but MIL is visiting in 2 weeks , then you can have it.

DS had neither, but enjoyed his friend's Groove and Learn from about 4 months - 10 months, and Jumperoo from about 7 months up. He grew out of our friend's Jumperoo about 10 months, but he is 91st centile for height.

Is the Jumperoo not a bit more grown up than the Groove and Learn?

Have you got a toy library near you? we borrowed them from there, so we could test them out, and TBH by the time we had borrowed both she had raelly outgrown them both. DD preferred the learn and groove, never really got into the whole boucing thing, but all my friends' babies preferred the jumperoo. Also ask friends who have babies a few months older than yours, they might have one they are willing to lend out as they take up so much space.

Oh my God, the Jumperoo everytime. I could leave my little one for about 20 minutes bouncing happily while I sat and had a cup of tea carried out important tasks.
A close friend had the Learn and Groove, but the Jumperoo was definitely the most popular with both our two.

DD is 7 months and loves the jumperoo. One of the best things we got her. She has a learn and groove table on order, so can't comment on that. Her baby friends who have come over love the jumperoo too.

Graco entertainer - lots more toys on it

feedthegoat · 19/01/2010 22:47

Ds loved his Jumperoo. Do they really make that much? Crikey, I might have to get mine out of the loft and flog it , I've been meaning to do it for ages! Mine isn't the rainforest one though so doubt it would make so much! Ds did get a lot of use out of his though, he loved it.

Grumpla · 22/01/2010 21:46

My neighbour has loaned me her Jumperoo and it is amazing. Exactly the sort of brightly coloured plastic crap taking over my house I swore I would NEVER HAVE, ho ho ho. Now it sits in pride of place in the centre of my small living room. My 7mo absolutely loves it, way more than his door bouncer. The springs are much springier and there is more to keep them entertained. He is really tall so about to grow out of it, I am DREADING that day and wondering if I can construct some sort of pillar extension to keep him in it til about...hmmm... 18 years old?

BambinolovesBeccie · 22/01/2010 22:28

Jumperoo!!!!!! DS loved it. In the loft now but was worth every penny.

magnummum · 26/01/2010 22:23

We've ended up with both inadvertently and both my 9 month old twins adore the Jumperoo and squeal with delight when it and roll themselves over to it when they want a go. Neither that impressed with the the Learn and Groove and I was sorry I'd ordered it. That said I would second what other posters have said and see if you can try before you buy as you never really know how children will react to something. Either way we managed to avoid anything like that with our older daughter and I can't help feeling she missed out as the twins have so much fun on the Jumperoo

reddaisy · 27/01/2010 00:15

My DD loved the Jumperoo but it does take up loads of space plus we couldn't move it from room to room in our house so if I was cleaning for example I couldn't move it around so she could bounce and see me at the same time.

She is also very active and probably only used it before she started crawling as then she wouldn't tolerate it but it was great for when she was rolling around everywhere as it really taught her how to play with things and it meant I always knew where she was!

We got ours for £60 from a Fisher Price shop at Cheshire Oaks outlet village by the way.

Triggles · 27/01/2010 06:27

Both our little ones loved the Fisher Price Hop and Pop.
