When did your DCs start being scared of things?

DD is two next week.
She is a very happy, calm little girl and I try and to be happy and calm for her. However in the last month or so she's started getting "scared" of things - for example I have to flick over the two pages with the dragon in Room on the Broom as she sits there saying "I not like it" in a sad little voice and won't look at it. Also with her animals book, she points to all the insects on the creepy crawly page and says "I not like it". She's never been stung, bitten or had a traumatic insect (or dragon) encounter as far as I know, and she was perfectly fine with the books till a few weeks ago.
Is this normal? Do children get scared of certain things at a certain age regardless of life experience?

My little one was scared of the pop-up tiger in one book from the go.

No idea where it comes from. But I'd let her take the lead and if she does not want the book any more, put it away for a bit.

I'm not sure whether fantasy is already kicking in at 2 years old. I thought that'd come later. Sorry, not much help really.

Hi Bettymum. My DS is now 2.3 but I think it was at around 2ish that he started to become scared of some things. He's quite a sensitive boy and seems to get frightened of quite a lot, including the dragon in Room on the Broom! Some of his fears seem quite irrational to me too. Am hoping that it's just a phase!
