No - but they watch TV while getting dressed... until I switch it off cos it slows them down.

blowbroth · 11/01/2010 19:04

No. We only have 1 tv in the house and it's in the lounge. Breakfast is in the dining room. The tv is never on in the mornings but we are out of the house by 7.40am.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 11/01/2010 19:05

No, they don't have meals in front of it either but they do watch sometimes before school if they are dressed and ready to go.

No.

purpleturtle · 11/01/2010 19:11

Not on a school morning.

nickytwotimes · 11/01/2010 19:12

Yes, my 3 yr old does.

I don't really think of breakfast as a meal in the way lunch and dinner are, so we don't ofetn eat it at the table unless it is eggs. For toast it is the sofa. GOves me time to wake up.

MrsMattie · 11/01/2010 19:12

No. I'm not that strict a parent, really, but I do have a 'we always eat at the table' rule (unles they're ill and then they're allowed biscuits in bed )...and that means no TV, as we have no telly in the kitchen.

pagwatch · 11/01/2010 19:21

No

I am pretty relaxed aboutthe tv. It is on when they want really but they seem to choose to do other stuff - more than I expected tbh.

But breakfast must be eaten, washed and dressed, teeth brushed and bags packed and ready before I would even contemplate letting it go on.

But DD and I leave to walk her to school at 7.45 so not that much time to languish anyway.
DS1 has it on if DS2s bus is still not here before I get back. He watches Fraiser while watching out the window for the bus

TheArmadillo · 11/01/2010 19:36

yep he eats his breakfast (toast and banana) in front of the telly while we run around making lunch boxes/showering/getting dressed.

Why does it matter what others do if it works for you?

GeeWhizz · 11/01/2010 19:47

TV after breakfast otherwise they take forever eating.

cheeryface · 11/01/2010 21:12

i was just curious. we do eat breakfast at the table but you can see through to the tv in the living room.
sometimes i think i am too fussy and stop them doing things because ive read too many bloody parenting books that have preached the 'correct' ways of parenting.
although ds2 is a total tele addict!

Mine watch tv when they get up but it goes off before breakfast always except on saturdays when dh gets up and i lie in bed and then it seems to stay on until i get up at 9am and turn it off! It then stays off until little ones go for nap after lunch and ds1 watches a dvd.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 12/01/2010 12:40

No. My dd would never get outof the door if the telly was on. She does however, read. Her and DH both eat while reading. He is much more skilled however than her. I need to contantly remind her to shovel another spoonful of shreddies in.

flaime · 12/01/2010 13:28

Ours watch tv for about 15mins whilst they have a drnk, then we go into the kitchen and we have the radio on whilst we have breakfast. We did try the telly once or twice but they were too slow eatng breakfast.

thesteelfairy · 12/01/2010 13:35

Yes, I don't mind admitting it. Makes the morning go a lot more smoothly if I can bribe them out of bed with an episode of Humf.

Ds does have ASD though and hates school so I like to start off the morning with something he likes doing and will distract him somewhat.

Pineapplechunks · 12/01/2010 13:40

Yep, DD watches about 20 minutes in the morning while she eats her brekkie and I have a cuppa then we go up, get dressed and leave.

I don't like dinner in front of the TV though, thats got to be round the table, as a family, with conversation.

NoahAndTheWhale · 12/01/2010 13:42

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Less likely to with breakfast but I wouldn't say never as then I would immediately prove myself wrong

choccyp1g · 12/01/2010 13:42

No, never (only when Ds gets up before me, and helps himself to chocolate) it's one of my unbreakable rules.

GooseyLoosey · 12/01/2010 13:43

No, nor lunch or tea. TV in any form does not happen on a school morning. The climb into bed with us at the weekend and watch TV for a while (while we sleep) and then we all get up and have breakfast.

Seona1973 · 12/01/2010 13:43

No, we eat breakfast at the table in the dining room. When the tv goes on they wouldnt want to watch it either as I put on Breakfast tv to catch the news, weather, etc. They do get to eat lunch in front of the tv if it is a non-school day.

Poledra · 12/01/2010 13:43

Not on school mornings, as it takes the DDs forever to eat breakfast with the TV on. They do sometimes watch it at the weekend during breakfast, but I still end up switching it off so they'll finish and leave the bloody table!

sweetkitty · 12/01/2010 13:45

No they would gawp so much at the TV it would take forever for them to eat it.

We eat breakfast at the dinnertable, then get dressed etc, the TV goes on once they are dressed, I find it essential for doing their hair.
