Ds2 is 16 days old and is a very happy, baby, sleeps well in the day and is being formula fed. He's eating approx every 4 hours. The problem is every night from 11.30 pm until 3 am he cries inconsolabley (sp?), after his feed and won't settle in his bed, really screaming, no amount of hugs or bringing him into our bed helps at all, it is hugely distressing for us but must be even worse for him - I don't seem to be able to comfort him and it is heartbreaking to say nothing of being tired. He seems to want to suck on something, like his hands but lacks the coordination to keep them in his mouth and when they come out the screaming starts again. Does anyone have any advice - please I hate to see him like this.

Thankyou for all the replies. Following some of the tips we got Infacol from the Netherlands yesterday and new dummies. Also have ordered sap simplex online.
Anyway we had a pretty good night ds2 didn't cry all night and managed to keep the dummy in long enough to fall asleep - so not sure what worked the new dummy or the Infacol - or both. I just hope they work tonight as well.
We did swaddle ds1 but this little one doesn't seem keen on it.
He also had more feeds last night.
I am so appreciative of all the help - I felt like I was slowly going crazy.

Hi i had to reply to this, its like de ja vu but let me start by saying you will realise one day it has just stopped!! ( I found tha ard to believe at the time)

My DD had colic from 8pm till 10 pm those few hours are horendus we tried everythng infacol made her puke, we tried coief at £10 a chuck for an eye drop size bottle, gripe water etc etc.

I eventualy got new bottles the TT anti coic with the inner tube, and magic LOL ( or coincidence) within 2 days massive improvemnt.

You have to ride it out im afraid it will ease, also had same prob with dummies adlike many mums on here spend about £50 on dummies to find the 1 shelikes is the cherry teat which are the cheapest you can buy.

I agree upright position helps.

Good Luck

hi i was wondering if anyone could help me. We are currently using sab simplex for our 3 week old son, recommended by a doctor and i was woundering how long until his colic goes?
He seems to be going red faced and seems like he is strainging alomost throughout the day, is this normal for colicy babies to do? (his bowels are working fine so i know he is not constipated)

Have you tried Colief (at least I think this is how you spell it), that is what our paediatrician recommended and I think it somewhat helped.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/01/2011 09:15
is definitely worth trying.

We found swaddling helped and holding babyhorizontally across tummy, with dummy wedged between my boob and his mouth. He used to go into an overtired frenzy and five mins of this gothim to sleep

edwardrocks · 16/01/2011 09:39

Swaddling stops them knocking out them knocking the dummy out with flailing arms

Inmaculada - I watched the Richard & Judy clip, amazing! Only prob being that my DD is 4months so too late, if only I'd known about it before, it would have helped A LOT.

Have you read his book? Is it worth buying if your baby is older than 3 months, but still has screaming fits Blush?
Baubles - I feel for you! The one thing that saved us was a swaddle - the woombie is fantastic. DD smiles when I put her in it. And a lot of patience helps as it does get better - except when teething starts that is.Grin

Hi OMR!
I started using the technique when DD was older than 3 months and it still worked well. We could get her from screaming meltdown to asleep in less than 5 mins, it was amazing!

You often have to adapt the technique to what works best for your LO - for example, I used a fast side-to-side swinging motion after a bit of experimentation as that had the best effect. Later DD preferred bouncing.

I would say don't bother with the book, get the DVD - it doesn't take long to watch and all the techniques are fully explained and demonstrated.

HTH

Thanks Inmaculada - have already tried the shushing loudly near her ear and swinging, felt a little silly, but it worked!! Could be a one-off but I will persist Wink.
I checked on Amazon for the DVD and there's one for £30! Is it really worth that much? Shock.
Anyway thanks for replying. I'm going to go and perfect my shushing now...

Dr Browns bottles and Colief worked for me, literally the same day as I bought those the Colic stopped, just like that!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 17/01/2011 17:57

Yes, I don't remember it being that pricey when I got it OMR.... have you tried ebay? Sadly I don't have a copy or I'd send it your way....

offmyrocker · 17/01/2011 21:19

I bought it on ebay, yeh! For a very fair £8.50. Thanks again Inmaculada Smile

InmaculadaConcepcion · 18/01/2011 07:48

Good luck, hope it helps!
