Dream Dri leg leaks - help please

Hello,
I've just bought a batch of Pop-in dream dri's (after selling a stash of BG v3 that I just didn't get on with, never liked the fabric) and I'm mostly really pleased with them but unless I change them every 2 hours my DD ends up with wet vest legs. Can anyone offer any advice to prevent it?

She's quite a skinny miss on the body but with a decent thigh so I think I'm doing them up tight enough. I'm wondering about popping in a thin booster - has anyone tried this and if so which kind please?
Thank you.

Oh for info, she's 7.5 months, about 16lbs and is only still when sleeping...

Have you prewashed them enough? I assume they are the new ones with 4 poppers down thr front not the 3 rows? I'm sure the dream dri came out after the leaky leg issues on the pop in bamboo.

Have you tumbled the outers??? Not recommended on these.

Maybe lay in a bamboo booster if not the above.

Is it compression wicking? If so then vests without poppers are better and will stop the moisture being squeezed out onto the legs. John Lewis do the vests if you need some

No need to pre wash lots with the dream dri as they are microfibre I think Octo, but you are right about the tumbling also no drying on radiators either as this has the same effect on the outers. Mine have been OK so far (have had a few weeks) but my two are not very heavy wetters. You can buy a dri night booster to go with the pop in which is bamboo and therefore quite thirsty - will take a while to dry though, but should solve any other leakage issues I would think. HTH

A dri night booster is a bit bulky ime esp for daytime - you could also try vest extenders. I find microfibre needs a few prewashes to get it to absorbency - esp lollipop nappies like softee and pop n gro.

Thanks folks, I have washed them quite a bit, have had them about 4 weeks now and they get washed every other day so they must be at full absorbency I reckon.

Octo is right, the bamboo booster is bulky (in fact it's enormous, I tried to put her in them overnight using it the other night, it was so big she couldn't roll onto her side and thus refused to sleep!) so wouldn't be any good for daytime, I was pondering those thin ones that real nappy websites always sell.

I am interested in the concept of compression wicking though, I'll confess I've not got around to getting her some new vests yet so they are probably a lot bit on the tight side in the length, is that a common cause of leaks then? I never really thought it would cause a problem (other than perhaps stunting DD's growth ) but is that a well known issue?

Thanks for the replies.

I could never get a leak free fit with poppered vests on ds2 (especially with microfibre) so I ended up with normal vests instead which solved the problem for me - you can get vest extenders to slacken off the fit of poppered vests if you don't want to buy new ones.

I think compression wicking is caused because unlike natural fibres, microfibre traps the moisture between its fibres rather than absorbing it and rather like a sponge it can be squeezed back out again if there is too much pressure on the nappy.

What a shame about the bamboo boosters though, I hadn't realised they were so bulky. I think an easy peasy hemp booster might slip into the nappy quite well - I use these in our bumgenius and they are fairly thirsty for very little bulk.

OuftyDufty · 06/01/2010 19:55

I'm nervous of normal vests rather than the poppered ones, I can just hear my grandmother's voice intoning the perils of getting cold kidneys and what horrors might befall a child if such a thing happened!
I'll buy her some new (correctly sized ) vests and see if that helps.

Bagpuss - thanks very much for the booster recommendation, I'll have a check on their measurements and see if they'll fit although if they're ok in BG then I reckon they should be fine.

Have a look out for some cut4cloth/frugi vests - designed for cloth bums and are super soft and very hard wearing - think they may have a winter sale on - if not try ebay.

I have never had problems with vests - have eiether gone up a size or squished them in

OuftyDufty · 08/01/2010 19:04

Thought I'd update for anyone else researching this problem - I've not poppered up her vests for the last couple of days (just tucked them in trousers with a bodysuit poppered over top) and it's completely stopped the wet leg issue, even on the bodysuit and trousers. So looks like it was indeed compression wicking.

So it's off to get some proper sized vests once the snow clears...

Thanks for all the help and advice.
