Smelly Itti's...

My Itti's have started to smell after DS only wearing for 15mins or so (presume its when he does wee in them).

Ive washed at 60 then washed again with no powder. Always add the extra rinse option.

Ive just washed with adding white vineger-Not tried them yet as drying.

Anything else i could do?

Also is frost good for nappies? Given the current climate and a few lingering stains i mite get them out there in -9, Will be ages until mr sunshine makes an appearance again !!!!!!

I have quite a few Ittis in my collection and I find that any bamboo nappy smells significantly fresher than other fabrics.

They will start to smell as soon as he wee's if the fabric still has an odour in it, as it is the wetness that releases it (just like clothes that were left in the machine too long can smell ok when dry, but smell when you either get warm or they get wet iykwim).

How old is your DS, how old are the Itti's, how often are you washing them and do you do a cold rinse prior to washing them, and use sanitiser in the main wash?

Doing a cold rinse and using sanitiser I find makes a big difference. If you add hot water to nappies full of wee, then the wee gets 'cooked' in if you like , whereas the cold rinse (with a little detergent) means that the wee is rinsed out first and makes the wash much fresher.

I had a bit of a break over christmas as had visitors for 12 days but was my busiest period due to huge stock delivery!

tellyaddict · 04/01/2010 21:38

I'd be tempted to try ALOT of ecover, just give them as many rinses as you need afterwards to get the soap out. I often use biological powder as it does the job if odours build up.

Your nappies aren't really old enough to have built up a really bad smell! And your son isn't old enough to be producing anything really rank unlike my toddler! Do you clean out your nappy bucket between uses? An antibacterial spray then wipe out gets rid of odours completely I find.

Perhaps you could try washing them at 60 using a bio (maybe even 2 or 3 washes like this) give them a thoroughly good rinse afterwards (again 2 or 3 rinses if needed) and see how they are? I find that adding bicarb or soda or soda crystals can also help.

tellyaddict · 04/01/2010 21:42

Have you stopped doing nappies? And where do you keep all your stock!???

octothechildherder · 04/01/2010 21:47

I have stopped doing the normal stuff - just selling through last few lines and focusing on the wet bags, pumpkin pants and snugglepants stuff for now - new stuff in pipeline - no more demos, no hire kits etc - just focsuing on the stuff I like and building my distributorship business - teachin alongside - so all now fitting in nicely - was all very manic before made that decision - also no more baby shows!!!

octothechildherder · 04/01/2010 21:49

I have a storage cupboard but as business grows more will get proper business premises. Saw some great little ones under the arches of the railway in Bath - perfect!

Lots of my stock comes in and then goes atrught back out to stockists.

Apologies for hijack

tellyaddict · 04/01/2010 21:54

Fab - sounds like it' really taking off for you, and I'm really pleased . I'm doing lots of demos but was exhausted from getting home at 10/11pm 3 or 4 nights a week, so will have to make changes....!

I just can't be arsed with demos anymore!

TheNattyPlus3 · 06/01/2010 18:59

def switch to a bio washing powder just for your nappy wash, ecover just doesnt hack it i found. some people use it no problem, but i find alternating between supermarker bio and bold 2-in-1 works really well.

def do as you are doing, rinse first, then wash at 60 with an extra rinse. my nappy wash takes 4 hours and uses a quid of electric, but rather that then smelly nappies

PurpleCrazyHorse · 15/01/2010 22:36

I occasionally wash our Ittis with soda crystals instead of non-bio washing powder and do a second rinse cycle to ensure they're totally clean.

caen · 15/01/2010 22:43

I've tried bio washing powder for the first time this week and it has really done the trick. I'd tried all the other suggestions before that, including a two day white vinegar soak, ugh, and nothing else worked.

elk4baby · 19/01/2010 21:42

TotsBots Potion seems to get the smell out quite nicely for us. Washing at 50 degress, with no powder pre-wash cycle.

wellbalanced · 21/01/2010 18:21

Used tots bots potion, and always do pre wash with no powder. 40/60 deg.

Seem to have cracked it. by doing lots of the above.
Thanks
