Can you recommend a different All in 1 (or 2!) nappy?

I use itti bittis on DS, but as he's getting bigger the fit is getting steadily worse (which, doing some research, seems really common ), and I want to try something else. We use 2 parters at home most of the time now, but the childminder just cannot get her head round them, and much prefers the itti bittis for ease of use.

Since she's been so great and uncomplaining using reusables (having never used them before), I really want to find something that's just as easy to use. I currently send him with a few itti bittis ready made up, so she can use them pretty much like disposables, no construction required!

So, any recommendations? I'm contemplating trying the wee notions AI2s, but can't find any opinion on them anywhere, and they're pretty expensive! Any other recommendations gratefully received!

DS is pretty chunky (15 months and 30lb, with chubby thighs and slightly slimmer waist), but as he's not walking yet I guess his shape could change a lot in the coming months.

Thanks!

BumGenius BTP pockets. Not beautiful but fairly trim and do the job well. I always use either both inserts or (more often) the large insert with a bamboo or hemp booster.

Minkis.

Nothing like them! Fabulous, we never had a leak!

Stuff them before you send to childminder (I used my 2 parter underneath bits) and they are no bother.

Have you tried Itti Bitti All in one?, similar to the snap in,but one piece. I find them a bit more generous and stretchy on my 31 lb boy. They are very easy to put on.

On this note, I found a pretty good deal on brand new starter packs on here:
www.fill-your-pants.com/section/109/1/complete-kits

Haven't found a better price for a kit of these nappies so far.
My dilemma now is Bumgenius or Wonderoo?

These things are so difficult as a new mum!

BumGenius for everyday with a few Ittis and Blueberries for posing. And a couple of Weenotions pockets too...

Ooh, thanks for all the ideas.

Am now perusing about 20 nappy sites...

Think I might order a wee notion, as we get on really well with the night notions, but can't decide between a pocket one or a snap in one. Suspect there is minimal difference...

Ooh, and a friend has some bumgenius I think, might see if I can borrow a couple to try.

Personally I'd make sure you send him in woolly longies over the top of his Ittis, that'll help stop the leaks a fair bit, and encourage him to walk - you should find he'll slim a fair bit off his bottom once he runs about!

Woolly longies over Ittis = fab advice - that's DS3's uniform. Cute, warm and dry!

Hopefully · 02/01/2010 21:04

I've actually got some longies, but I don't think he's soaking through, he's more out wetting them - the back is dry, but if he hasn't weed for a while, when he does it all comes straight out the side of the nappy. I've tried hoicking them up, loosening, tightening, different booster combinations, everything.

Is v sad, as it was nice being able to put him in vaguely normal clothes with the slim ittis...

I'd hang in there with the Ittis if I were you, sounds like they will fit again. Pick up a few preloved BGs to tide you over.

I second the Itti AIO advice. They are slightly bigger and stretchier than the AI2s, although you might need the mini bamboo boosters for extra absorbency.

I have a few WNAI2s and I love them I find them really reliable and don't have a problem with leaks. They can easily last ds up to 4 hours without wicking too.

NappyShedSal · 02/01/2010 23:39

Am I being really thick -why would wool longies encourage him to walk??

NappyShedSal · 02/01/2010 23:40

I have been thinking about this all evening off and on, and can't come up with an answer!

swampster · 02/01/2010 23:57

Sal!

If you worry about bulky nappies hindering mobility - not convinced that they do though - then lovely slim-fitting Ittis are the answer. If you worry about your Ittis leaking, wool longies over the top should prevent any major disasters.

Ariela · 03/01/2010 11:24

No, I meant encourage him to walk ie make him walk holding your hands which is what I did - poor DD didn't learn to walk without for nearly 6 months - then discovered she wasn't holding hands when we stopped to chat and RAN OFF we had a devil of a job to catch her!!, and for now, wool longies over the top to protect clothing.
Once he's walking he should slim quickly and the Ittis will fit again.

Having said that as he tends to save it for one big wee I'd also suggest to introduce a potty to the equation - catch a few wees, easy enough at bath time, ladle on the praise and see if he asks for it. I'd also place a small washable wipe over his penis before doing up the nappy - this will stem the flow of wee when he lets it all goand allow it to soak up in the nappy more easily.

I was just suggesting something cheap to try - you lot on here are always trying to encourage people to spend £££ on new nappies(and admitedly rather lovely ones) which IMO may not always be necessary, being an older person I come from the make do and mend era, we don't have much disposable income so have to economise, so I'm sure there are other people in the same boat, new nappies are all very nice but it's often a case of ££ to consider too.

Hopefully · 03/01/2010 15:30

Would love to encourage him to walk, but he won't even weight bear, really (is perfectly capable of it if, say, a dangerous knife or laptop is just out of reach ), and couldn't be less interested in learning!

Thanks for the longies/washable wipe idea - will definitely try them and see if it improves things, at least in the short term - am getting very bored of the smell of wee!
