Tips for weaning a baby with reflux

My little girl has had reflux since birth, ie refusing feeds, screaming, only taking small amounts of milk, vomiting last feed at night etc. However we started weaning her two weeks ago and suddenly she began taking her bottle a LOT easier and the amount she drinks in a day increased! However during the past week she has started wakening up frequently during the night screaming. Generally she is easy to settle but she wakens so frequently we are shattered. I can only assume that the fact she is consuming more milk is now irritating her. Also I was wondering are their particular foods which are good to give and ones which i should avoid? I have spoken to her G.P and increased her ranitidine, I have also elevated bed. Any other tips? Feel so sorry for her

Tras no tips really but didn't want your post going unanswered.

What age is you DD? What have you started weaning her with? Could it be that she is now getting too much food and her tummy just can't cope with it? Think how yucky you feel when you have too much to eat at a meal.

Hopw things improve for you, lack of sleep is no fun!

no advice I'm afraid but I'll be watching this thread. My DS is 22 weeks old and has bad reflux. the paed told us to start weaning him (and that was wen he was 18weeks!) and although reluctantly, I decided to give it a go. Baby rice made him worse. 1.5 hours of screamig. the same with the tiniest amount of apple. 1 hour of screaming. Carrot didn't seem to bother him, but he wasn't interested anyway. We decided to leave it for now and try again in a month or so.

how old is your LO?

Have 2 boys with reflux, they are now 6 and 3yrs old but I can still remember it all

Start with starchy stuff, potato, sweet potato, and other veg, I did carrot, courgette, broccoli. I personally don't like baby rice as it tastes awful avoid anything acidic like apples.

If your LO is about 6 months then try baby led weaning where they eat non puree foods, if they are younger and on puree then just start with breakfast and lunch then if there is any reaction to certain foods it is not in the middle of the night.

I did elevated bed and have only just stopped for ds2 even though he is 3 as he still refluxes! Doesn't scream the place down anymore though.

I weaned my very refluxy baby just before 6 months and it did improve his reflux.

If yours is past 6 months then you can give yogurt which may help. Other than that just offer things individually so you can tell if he has any reactions.

My DD also had reflux. Agree with Fizzylemonade, BLW worked a treat for us, toast, breadsticks and veg at first.
Reflux didn't completely go until about 8 months but got much better (no pain) when we started weaning at 6 months. Also helped when DD could roll over and sleep on her tummy.
Sorry, not much help and its a horrible time but it does get better

Baby was 20wks when we started weaning her. She is now 22 wks. Its quite strange because the first week she was great and then all hell broke loose! She is teething at the minute and has a bad cold as well, so it could also be that. Need to read up on BLW. Thanks all for your comments, its nice to know we are not alone!
