Do LOs sleep longer as they get older?

Did your LOs start to sleep longer at night the older they got? That is, lie in later in the morning than before?

My hunch is that babies/young toddlers are natural early risers but as they drop all their naps and start pre-school and school they are more likely to lie in after 5.30, 6. 6.30am even.

I am thinking specifically of children from toddlers to 5 or 6 years old (not teens who can sleep for Britain!).

in my experience yes
not much but they do and presumably they get later and later so that by the time they are teens they get up after lunch

YES! There is hope...

ds2 is almost 4 and still gets up by 6am with bed at 7pm
ds1 is 6 and would lie in till about 9am if I didnt wake him for school, but although he gets into bed by 8.30pm, he doesnt sleep till about 10pm.

Sadly not in DD's case. She is 3.4 and until the age of around 2.5 slept very well - usually 12 hours a night if not more, usually unbroken sleep. Since then we've had regular night-wakings, early wakings from around 5am onwards. It is now usually (and thankfully) nearer 6.30. She goes to bed at 8pm and is asleep almost immediately but regardless of what time she goes to bed, only sleeps on average 10 to 10.5 hours a night. She attends pre-school 3 mornings a week, does not nap and hasn't napped since around 13 months old. I'm really looking forward to her teenage years .

Wait until they are teens - then you need dynamite to get them out of bed.

Yes, DS1 who is 7, lies in til 8-8.30am (bed 7.30-8.30pm) some weekends, DS2 who is 3 till about 7.30pm (bed same). When DS2 dropped his afternnon sleep it made all the difference. He just did it himself really. and lots of exercise and fresh air.

Both were crack o dawn risers when little, so yes there is masses of hope!

If we are totally pooped we stick them in front of the TV with food and catch an extra hour or so. They are generally pretty good and behave.

Yes, I do suspect dropping naps may extend her sleep. But then at some point so will a later bedtime...
