Worried about off colour DS 13 months - what do you think..?

DS is 13 months old and has had a coldy bug on and off for a few weeks - seems to get something new every time he goes to nursery, and all his little friends are coldy and coughy too.

He is MUCH better than he was and not actively sick anymore but - he used to be such a good eater and is violently refusing food. I'm lucky to get 10 spoons in, and it's a struggle with wailing (him and me) and back arching (just him), whereas previously he'd wolf down maybe a whole 12 month sized jar.

He's also alot more grizzly and sleeping a lot more during the day, and being really cuddly. He'll scream if I put him down on the floor even for a few minutes (previously he'd happily play on his own and chase the cats for 20 minutes while I tidied up), so I'm lugging him around with me for a quiet life, but can't be much fun for him.

I know he's not sick anymore, but it's like his character has completely changed. When he's relaxed he's his usual smiley self but it doesn't last very long, and food has just become this battleground, and it's awful. Anyone got any ideas - do you think it's just post sickness, feeling a bit rough and not fancying food, or is this a shiny new phase. He's never really had separation anxiety before, so I wonder whether he's just feeling a bit ropey still.

I know he won't starve himself, but seriously, how can he survive on so little? - today he has had half a kiwi, half a slice of toast (which took about an hour to finish), 10 little spoons of HIPP, half a satsuma, a rice cake and a Petit Filou. Completely refused dinner and his bedtime milk. Help!!

does he have teeth coming? any other signs of illness.
His about the right age for seperation problems, but i always say go with your gut, if your worried, trip to GP wont hurt.

Thanks - he might - does that usually cause loss of appetite? I can't remember - He's had six for about 3 months now and I thought it was all quiet on the tooth front, but will have a squizz at his gums tomorrow. May take him to the GP on Monday. Hope he is not broken

my dd's went off food when teething, and i know when my wisdom teeth came it was horrible to eat.
He is eating enough btw, i remember hearing a child only needs 5 teaspoons a day to be ok, so please dont panic. Long as his having wet nappies and poohing.
hope he and you are ok

5 teaspoons a day?? Ok, I will stop wrestling with him at mealtimes and let him get on with it then. Thanks, I feel a bit better.

crumpetsolo i was like you 7 months ago always wresting with my ds to eat but thanks to the brilliant advice off some of the mums on here i have managed to relax a lot about what he eats. it is awful when they wont eat and you worry there not getting enough but they make up for it when they get back to eating. good luck. whoever invented teething needs to be dealt with.
