Graco Sweet Peace - Good investment or waste of money????

Hi,

Neurotic Mum of three here dd 3 - ds - 1 and my youngest is only 4 weeks old. Have just seen this swing thing in Toys rus and have been obsessing ever since!
I can see the logic of being hands free for the other two. The baby being raised above floor level when the others are running around but am not sure I can justify £139.
I didn't need one for dd or ds - is it a good product I will love or something else to clutter up my attic????
Please Help!!!!!

Looks like a huge waste of plastic to me. I think it could take up a lot of room and you would regret the expense quickly.

If you want hands free with small baby why not try a sling? Much cheaper and endlessly useful beyond the first few months. I have a "ring style" sling that was £20 from eBAY. Kept dd2 very happy whilst I cooked and played with dd1.

looks ghastly to me

sling is a good idea, or if you need them right off your hands and off the floor, maybe a moses basket on a rocking stand (total cost £50 John Lewis, much less on ebay) in the living room? Or just a pram parked somewhere handy?

A friend ad one.
DS HATED it. He screamed his heart out whenever he went in it.
Sling far better idea.

have to disagree with the others- I had one of these which is the same idea for dc3 and it was a godsend, no kidding.

He slept in it for naps in the living room, would sit in it happily and it was used every day until he got too big for it (about 7 months). Then I sold it on for about half of what I paid for it, so got a wee bit back.

I loved it and wished I'd had one for my first 2 dcs. Is there anyone you can borrow one from for a few days to see if your ds likes it?

JustGettingByMum · 17/12/2009 09:52

Agree with LoveleyWalters, I was lucky enough to be loaned one for DC3, and it was fantastic!!!!

Thanks for advice - I have a sling which is great for pootling but not for changing ds napies or making mince pies with dd etc.
I feel they need Mummy to be theirs for brief periods of time.....
Might check e-bay??

I got a rocking swing thing for £12.50 on ebay, Joycey. Like you I was looking for that elusive magic newborn-calming product to buy mr a little time with my other two children. Didn't work for my daughter at all but on the upside I ebayed it on and got 12.35 for it so our month of failed swinging only cost 15p.

Skegness · 17/12/2009 13:46

me a little time

You don't happen to be in SE London do you Joycey29? I have a 'magic' swing, which was great for DS1 who napped great in it etc so kept it for DS2 but guess what? DS2 not keen! DS2 is only 6 weeks old so I keep hanging on to it, thinking he will grow to love it but if you are in the area and keen to take it, I could bear to part with it as it's not as if we don't have enough crap stuff in our house! On a serious note, I think it's one of those things that your baby will love or hate... So it's a gamble.

Joycey29 · 17/12/2009 21:41

Thank you so much Angel - unfortunately I am not near you but it was kind of you to offer!
Having a rethink at present after newborn nearly got squashed twice today!!!

yes - good point about keeping them up off the floor - although you have to watch the other two aren't 'helping' by swinging the seat a little too enthusiastically!
