Still has CRADLE CAP at 2.5 years

I remember reading that cradle cap is very common and usually clears up within a year. My daughter has had it very badly since birth, surprise surprise it started the first time I washed her hair with a shampoo product, so just assumed I weasn't rinsing out the product good enough (Simple Baby or Johnsons Baby Shampoo only), but rinsed well and still cradle cap persistent.

Are the chemicals in these shampoos responsible do you think?

As per advice I've also tried brushing hair religiously daily, trying to remove the scales with a comb and all that's left is the olive oil process. I'm assuming this is medical grade olive oil, not off the supermarket shelf, which is going to be costly if chemist prices are anything to go by these days. (Was going to insert a smiley at this point, but just noticed there's a Biscuit Smiley, what's that all about??)

Has anyone else had children with cradle cap and can offer advice?

My 6 month old also started to develop it within a few weeks, but then I stopped using shampoo on his hair (or his comb-over I should say ! ) and just used water and now it's disappeared.

I'm worried my girl's cradle cap will develop into really bad dandruff by the time she's school age if I don't solve this problem soon.

My ds got cradle cap for the 1st time at 17 months, I used normal olive oil and a comb and it all came out, not come back yet a month later. If it does I will repeat the process. It was just some olive oil I have for cooking, not medical. If he didn't have much hair, I would probably not use any shampoo and see if that made a difference like you say.

My DS still had it at 3. I used to apply Dentinox cradle cap shampoo (I think thats the correct name) and it worked but it would just return. In his case it was linked to mild excema. In the end I used olive oil - just the stuff I had in the kitchen. Applied loads and left it on over night with a towel on the pillow Next morning I put on a DVD and combed the cradle cap out with a fine toothed comb. It lifted off easily and never came back.

My DD still has it at 3. It is gradually going now. I did stop using Johnson's about 6 months ago. I used Vosene for a bit and Head & Shoulders but now just use L'Oreal kids stuff. Be very wary about picking/combing it out as all the hair comes out with it.

My dd still has it at 7!! No dandruff, it just stays til I comb it off and then comes back in small patches - not a problem.

Ds still has this at 3. Luckily he has quite thick hair so I'm following a policy of ignore and hope it goes away on its own [slack mum].

I did comb it out using olive oil (just kitchen oil) when he was a baby and it was more visible but it must have come back at some stage. The combing did remove quite a lot of hair but I maybe didn't leave the oil in for long enough.

My ds had it until i switched over to halo and horns shampoo

I bought olive oil from the chemist - it wasn't expensive. Get the smallest bottle. I rubbed it into dd (2 yr old at the time) scalp, left it overnight (towels on bed as will leave oily stain on sheets. Combed out in morning. Washed couple of times with johnsons baby shampoo. Most of cradle cap gone.

you don't need medical grade olive oil - just the regular kind. it's not a magic cure though - just softens the scales so you can comb / pick them off. have you tried any special cradle cap shampoos?

The only thing that shifted my Dcs cradle cap was a very fine toothed plastic nit comb. Wash the hair as normal, apply conditioner and gently comb through from front to back - very satisfying to see it lifting off!
