my ds is 13 months, i was wondering if other mums thinks this is an ok bedtime or is too late? this is the time i notice ds gets tired so i put him to bed (obviously!) i know other mum who have kids the same age and they go to bed much earlier, but mostly cause they're sick fed up of dc by 6.30-7.00pm. Should i be getting him to bed earlier? this might be is a daft question..but what is a reasonable bedtime hour for a 13month old

When does he sleep til in the morning?

As long as he gets enough sleep overall (about 14 hours night and naps at this age iirc) you can put him to bed whenever it suits you.

SansSheriff · 13/12/2009 22:44

Whatever works for you! DS1 went through a long stage of going to bed at 8-8.30ish around the same age, because any earlier and he would be up at 6am. Now (at 2.9) he crashes out around 7pm and sleeps for 12-13 hours!

sandyballs · 13/12/2009 22:47

Don't worry about the clock, do what suits you and your family and as long as he seems rested and happy then that's fine.

I have only decided on this course of action myself recently and my DD's are nearly 9! It's best not to listen to other people too much, do what suits you.

Dd3 has always gone around that time. It's just when we're ready and she still naps during the day at nursery (she is 2.7) When she was around a year she would have two naps.

chegirlwithbellson · 13/12/2009 22:59

I think its fine. With my kids it gets earlier as they get older. My 6 year old and his little bro 2 go to bed at 7.30. But when they were 1 it wouldve been more like 8.30 - 9.30

I remember a HV asking me what time DD went to bed when she was 9mths old. I used to put her down for the night after her last feed at 9.30. The HV looked cats bum mouth and said 'thats very late'
Yes the poor thing used to find it very hard to get up for work in the morning

notimetoshop · 13/12/2009 23:15

Mine both started off late and have got earlier as they've got older.
As babies, they'd nap on and off, but their last one before 'sleeping through' (ha ha) was about 11pm.
I think at 1yo they were about 9pm.
The other mums - I bet their kids get up really early.

MattBellamysMuse · 13/12/2009 23:21

Of course not. Mine used to go to bed about 9pm at this age so they could have daddy time when he got in from work.
It didn't matter then as they didn't have to get up early. Once they started nursery they went to bed much earlier.

MattBellamysMuse · 13/12/2009 23:22

They also napped during the day for 2 hours.

gigglebells · 13/12/2009 23:24

at that age my ds1, being an only at that stage, went to bed more like 9.30 so we could both spend time with him in the evening, particularly daddy who got home after working various insane shifts. He went to granny or cm in the morning in his p-j's and only had to get up at 8.30am anyway.
As the others say, things shift a lot once you either get more dc or they start nursery and so on, make the most of having him around as this stage goes too fast.

mummysgoingmad · 13/12/2009 23:30

thanks for all the replys, my ds gets up about 8pm, sometimes 7 but hes up once through the night for a bottle. i honestly thought it was a late bedtime as the other mums i know ask me all the time how can i keep ds up that late. he has 1 nap through the day for 30 mins - 1 hour.

DD (18 months) has 2hr nap during the day and is still shattered by 6.45pm, goes to bed and sleeps til 8am.

They're all different.

weebump · 13/12/2009 23:40

I agree with everyone else. it only matters when they need to be up early. Personally I aimed for 7.30/8pm from 4 months on (didn't always happen) and our dd usually woke at 8 am which suited us. Now that she's 2 she only goes to nursery 2 days a week, so bed-time varies from 7pm - if she hasn't napped during the day - to 8 pm if she needs dinner and a bath after we come home from work. Lately though she's still been awake until after 9pm and calls out for us at 8.30 am.

I remember my no all sister pointing out that "ideally she should be in bed at 7 and up at 7 in the morning". I just laughed at her. No. Ideally she should be in bed by 8 and up at 8, that's what suits our household.

nappyaddict · 14/12/2009 03:10

DS went to bed about 11pm for the first 12 months then I switched it to 9:30 and he still goes at that time now he is 3.5

pigleychez · 14/12/2009 17:59

My DD is 16mths and usually is in bed by 8pm.
We have a bath at 7.30 then by the time we have done that got out and dired and got pjs on its about 7.45 ish. She then has a drink of milk before being tucked in for the night.
This has been her routine for yonks.
Alot of my friends think this is really late too, but that seems to be what works for us.

Have tried putting her to bed earlier and later but it makes no difference to her waking time. Its normally between 6.30 to 7am [Yawn]
