do you use nappisan or equivalent to 'kill the germs'?

and if not, do they still smell a bit when they come out of the wash?

and do you wetpail or drypail? i'm guessing that must make a difference?

i currently wash at 60 but must switch to 40 if i can and am curious!

I wash at 40 mostly and never wet pail. Very, very occasionally if he has a REALLY spectacular poo then I might rinse the nappy before washing, but that has only happened about 4 times in 7 months!

I wash with Ecover, although I picked up a job lot of bambinex wash for 30p a packet so am currently using that. I think Nappisan rots the elastic or something? Heard that somewhere but not sure where - one of the many threads here I expect!!

I wash at 60 very rarely, maybe once a month, and only then 'cos I feel vaguely that I ought to. Which is a poor reason, now I come to think about it!

Just wash at 40 and see what you think, you probably won't even notice the difference!

I used to wash nappies at 40 degrees, dry pailed and didn't use anything else. Nappies were always fine

IdrisTheDragon · 09/12/2009 20:44

My post sounds like I do something else now - no one has worn nappies here for over 2 years so I don't wash any now

40 degrees here and always dry pail.
Nappies don't smell. Only use Napisan if she has diorreah or something like that - just to make sure. But in 3 1/2 years I'm still only on my 2nd box of Napisan.

Hiya I always wash ours at 40. Only did it at 60 when ds was tiny.

I dry pail (- or monkey foot bag mine)No need to wet pail nappies these days at all. Also i've never used any sanitiser.
My nappies are all fine a year later and dont have a problem at all, but i do cold rinse before i wash and some times rinse after aswell.

40 degrees is much better for most nappies or should i say the PUL inside! and your electric oh and of course as you all know, the environment

Give it ago!

Tots Bots brought out Potion detergent for this very reason - have not used it but I'm intrigued how well it works - has anyone used it?

Ariela · 10/12/2009 10:47

I use Potion for school socks - excellent and white on a low temp wash. Not had nappies to try it on but everyone I know using it likes it.

Hello I have had loads of problems getting my nappies clean but here is my current washing regime that works a treat.

Dry pail all nappies ( obviously scrapping all the poo debris off as much as possible).

Put nappies in to rinse first, then with a small scoop of non-bio washing powder, wash at 60.
I then have a quick wash cycle of 30 mins on my machine which I do with no powder.

nappies are squeaky clean despite being very soiled.

I wash at 30 if its a wee only wash & do a short cycle with a rinse. I do a couple of rinses first if its poo wash, then 40 on a long stain removal wash with an extra rinse. Every so often I do a short wash with no powder to try & stop build up.

No smells. Nappies are mainly v.clean, have a few recent poo stains that I'm waiting for some sunshine to bleach out.
