Is this a rediculus request for a 5 year olds birthday party ??

My daughter has been invited to her class mates 5th birthday party. The invite said, Alice in wonderland fancy dress. So it's a bit specific. I thought what on earth could my daughter wear? She dosn't have anything suitable and I don't fancy spending money on a costume as well as a present just before christmas. I thought it was a bit of an unreasonable request.
Then when we saw her again she said "Oh, can you come to the party?" she then went on to say that the rabbit and march hair were taken.
I know it is a very tiny class, but I think this is just rediculus. My daughter would love to go to the party, but I'm thinking of phoning and saying she's ill, or somethings cropped up.

I would send a message saying that she will be coming as Alice, and see what the response is....

I really, really want to see a photo of this party.

Do the cheshire cat, a cereal packet for the grin and some ears, bit of paint on them plus old tights stiffed with something for the tail and you're sorted.

I'd go with Alice too , But yabbu, it is ott. dd1 wants fancy dress for her party, the theme is 'princesses and fairys'. Every self respecting 6 yo girl should have a princess or fairy dress.

The Alice thing is a bit specific.

ZacharyQuack · 06/12/2009 01:18

Queen of Hearts? Standard princess wear with some red heart cutouts stuck on.

rollonbedtime · 06/12/2009 01:23

Thanks, I could try the cat.

Do they have a donkey in the film ? She has a donkey costume.

I've looked on e-bay and there's nothing under £20.

I think the pictures will look fab too. That's probubly why she's doing it.

OTT definitely. You could just facepaint a Dormouse's face on and give her a teapot to carry - that would work for the Dormouse.

rollonbedtime · 06/12/2009 01:26

Oh, The Queen of hearts!! Thanks ZacharayQuack. She has a snow white dress. I could even sew on some playing cards.
I think my little one can go to the ball after all.

lol at march hare and rabbit being 'taken'... so they only want one of each character there then??

turn as Alice just to annoy them.

Oh.. YANBU

rollonbedtime · 06/12/2009 01:44

Yes, I think we might still do Alice. My daughter has a cuddly white rabbit that I bought from disney world when I was 11.
Well she didn't mention Alice, did she.
I think I'll have to try to avoid her now, so she dosn't tell me that any more are "taken".
It's a blooming cheek when you think about it. It's a big expence, just so she can have great pictures.

YANBU

At DD's fancy dress party we had a general theme of 'animals' and even made sure there were spare costumes!

Totally OTT.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 06/12/2009 07:10

Ridiculous. has the birthday child got an approved gift list too?

rollonbedtime · 06/12/2009 18:12

I blooming hope not Kreecher!!, although I wouldn't put it past her.

I can't stand big birthday partys at the best of times to be honest. A room full of hyperactive, screeching 4-5 year old girls. Not a great way to spend a saturday afternoon.

send her as the rabbit and when they say 'the rabbit was taken' you reply.' yes it was ..and the result was more rabbits so here is another one.'

Greensleeves · 06/12/2009 18:16

"Every self respecting 6 yo girl should have a princess or fairy dress."

now THAT is rediculus

rollonbedtime · 06/12/2009 18:24

That's a great one, mulledfruitshootand cheese. I've told my Husband and he's laughing too.

My daughter has a dressing up box which contains:

a show jumping costume
a jockey outfit
a donkey costume
a shrek costume
a doctors outfit
and a pumpkin costume.
She also has a snow white dress, folded up neatly at the bottum. It's been worn once I think.
I wouldn't call her a tom boy though, she's just not that into princesses or fairys

Nice idea to have a themed party, but no duplicates - barmy.

bigchris · 06/12/2009 19:17

rollonbedtime · 08/12/2009 16:29

It's a mixture really, some posh areas and some poor. Can you guess which part we are in ??
