When did you start putting baby to sleep in another room for naps?

I'm a bit confused about the sids advice. Are you meant to keep baby in same room as you at all times for first six months ie in living room in moses till you go to bed, and for naps, or is it meant to be ok to put them in another room for daytime and evening because sids risk is highest after 10pm?

I kept dd with us till 6 months but now with ds wondering if would be better for him to have naps in other room where she is not running around making noise.

What did you do?

When dd was this age I put her to bed in our room, while we sat in living room.
If she fell asleep in her pram, I left her in her own room until she woke.

I took it that the advice was to keep them in the room with you at night-time. I always felt it was ok for her to nap elsewhere.

Our house is all on the flat, though, which made a difference

how old was your dd? ds is only 2 months.

all of ours were put in their cot for their naps, pretty much from day 1. its probably a good idea as you dont want to stop your dd from having fun even if the baby is asleep.

My 3 month old is too big for moses basket and carrycot so he goes in his cot. He only sleeps for 30mins at a time though!

I used to tiptoe around DS when he napped & tried to get him in his cot, but he never napped very well anyway...With DD now I keep her with us until our bedtime, and probably will until 6 mths or so. I figure if she can learn to nap even when DS is around playing it'll make life easier all round (and with a bit of luck she'll turn into one of those babies that'll sleep anywhere)

I always put DC in their own rooms for naps - nice and dark. I, too, felt that the SIDs advice applied at night time but then, to be honest, mine were in their own rooms from about 2 weeks. The were such noisy sleepers!
This may sound harsh but I was of the opinion that if (God forbid) something were to happen during the night, there was very little I could do anyway. Hence,it's called SIDs.

well i reckon i'll keep him with us for now, as that's what we did with dd and then make a call when he grows out of moses...
thanks for replies

I kept mine around me for day naps until they grew out the moses basket/carrycot then had to put them in another room to nap in the daytime.

Also one thing is DS will sleep through anything now because I had dd running around playing so that was actually a surprising good thing that came out of ds napping wherever we were. I never told dd to be quiet (unless of course the noise was excessive and I would have done anyway) now at nearly 4 you could put a brass band in with ds and he wouldn't care or notice so it does have its benefits too.

Mine used to just fall asleep on the floor when he wanted a nap, so I just left him with a blanket over him. At around 6mo he started objecting to noise more (so couldn't leave him in a corner at a party any more) and once he was mobile I started putting him in the cot so I didn't have to worry about him waking up and moving.
