Hello,

I know it may sound a bit daft how much should my 6 month old be having?!
At the minute my DS is having;

Morning around 6am- 7oz bottle of formula

Breakfast between 8-9.00am- Cereal mixed with his milk, or porridge, half jar full

around 10.30-6-7oz bottle of milk

Lunch time around 2.30pm- half jar of veggies and half jar of fruit, then a bottle 6-7oz shorty after.

Tea time- 6-7oz bottle and half jar of dinner, (sweet potatoe or califlower cheese, carrots ect)

Bedtime- 7-7.30pm 7-8oz bottle.

Does this sound about right?? Im not sure if its too much or too little, he still has his milk and enjoys it, altho a few times he hasnt finished the milk off.
He is now wakening through the night for a feed when he used to sleep from 7.30pm to around 5-6am!

Any comments would be apriciated.

Thanks x

Hello, I think it differs from baby to baby. My DS (6.5 months) has alot less milk than yours but more carbs and protein which I think fills him up. He's a big baby (23lb) but this is what he has on a typical day-

7.30am- 7oz bottle.
10.00am- Porridge mixed with 4oz of formula and blended fruit.
12.30pm- Sometimes quater of a cheese sandwhich or a rice cake
2pm- 6oz bottle
5pm- Vegetable pasta mixed with chedder cheese or sweet potato, carrot and mashed potato with chicken.
6.45- 7oz bedtime bottle.

He used to have more bottles than this but I read that they only need about 20oz a day at this age, I've also made sure he gets extra calcium through cheese which he loves. Hope that helps

ohh thanks Piratejelly,

My DS is also a big baby he weighs 20lb 3oz and is also nearly 2 and half feet long at 25 weeks old!!

I see your giving your DS chicken and cheese do u blend the chicken into the meals or are they jars of food i have recently been making my own. I would like more ideas what to make him which will fill him and also give him what he needs. So far iv only made Sweet potatoe and carrots and potatoe, califlower and leek puree, everything DS eats is just puree's.

Thanks for your help x

I make my own, but DS eats his food mashed not pureed, though I'm sure you could make them up as I do then puree them.

I make him up a big batch once a week and freeze it, usually I'll cook some butternut squash, sweet potato, carrot, broccoli and cabbage and mix that together.

Then I'll make him some tomato sauce for his pasta by frying off some onions or leeks in a little olive oil, then adding chopped cherry tomato, finely diced red pepper and some garlic then adding a tin of tomatoes and a little tomato puree and cook this down. Then I cook some brown spaggetti pasta and when it's cooked I chop it up finely and add it to the sauce (I usually add some of the cooked broccoli and carrot as well) and then freeze in pots.

Then when it comes to feeding DS i'll defrost and heat up the pasta dish and add some cheese to the top and mix it in,I usually add a little bit of his milk as well just to make it nice and creamy.

Sometimes I'll add cheese to his vegetable meals as well or i'll take a cube of pre- frozen chicken (cut it into meal size chunks when it's fresh, then freeze in individual portions so you don't waste any) cook that, chop it up and add it to his vegatables.

Another favourite is mashed potato with fish, mashed up and mixed up with some milk. And if I cook a suitable meal such as roast dinner with roasted veg i'll put some aside and freeze it for him.

These will be easy to puree, but try just mashing with a fork, your DS might suprise you and take to it easily, I gave my DS lumps one day when I couldn't be bothered with the blender and he hasn't looked back and likes all textures now, but he will eat anything and everything! HTH

Thanks agian for your help,

Thats given me sum ideas of what to make DS.
At the minute he isnt having any protein so i will def start to add that.

Im thinking of maybe offering some porridge or rice before bed time too, but dont ant to overload his stomach before bed.

He has today started to not take as much milk, soo do you think i should offer him more food??

He does take the food whenever offered and loves it.

Thanks again
