The kid who spoils everything for everyone else

There is a boy in dd's class who is constantly spoiling things for the other children - eg spoiling their work, shoving them, making horrid faces, anything he thinks he can get away with without the teacher noticing!

He is from a well-off background with well educated parents who are seemingly happily married.

What drives this kind of behaviour? The child has been the same since starting school, now in Y5. My friend suggested that it may be related to how he is disciplined at home? Any insights welcome!

Why do you need possible insights into reasons for another childs behaviour? We are not going to know what his situation is, if he has SN etc.
If you have concerns that he is disrupting your DD's class then surely you shoudl just speak to the teacher and tell ehr your DD is being sitracted/ having her work ruined byt this boy and leave it at that?

Good point re SN, sometimes they aren't obvious...it's my problem really, in that I don't like this kid, just thought that if I could develop more understanding about why kids act this way I might be able to stop disliking the child which I feel bad about. Also I may be able to help my dd deal with him better - she just generally tries to avoid him as far as possible.

That's fair enough, I just think no-one is going to be able to give an insight into why someone acts like they do. By all means have a word with the teacher but I would carry on telling your dd to avoid him if she really doesn;t like him, not much else you can do though.
