Duvet for a 2yo

We're moving DD (2.1) into a bed this week - she's driving us insane with her cries of "Get out of bed!" in the morning and is obsessed with covering herself in a blanket (we are now using summer-weight Grobag for this reason!). So, which tog rating is best? Her room is usually between 18 and 20. Have seen a 7.5 tog one in argos but would I be better off with 4.5?

TIA!

I got my dd a 4.5 tog cotbed sized one from John Lewis when she was 2.
That has got us through last winter and is still fine as the weather is getting nippier this time round.
Apparently the togs required for a child bear no relation to those needed for an adult, so you have to be careful you don't go too high w the tog rating.

We're getting a single for her - can always get a 4.5 and if she seems too cold get a warmer one; can keep tyhe 4.5 one for when it is a bit warmer (i.e. two weeks in june...)

FWIW I also have a single duvet for dd (who's now 3) but it swamps her, and she refuses to use it.

is it a full sized single bed or a cotbed? The maximum recommended tog for a single bed is 10/10.5tog but for a cotbed the maximum recommended is 4/4.5tog. DD and ds have 4.5tog in summer but have recently moved to a 10.5tog as it has got a bit colder - both are in single beds. Their room temperatures has been dropping to 15/16 degrees overnight though.

Thanks - we only have a normal cot though, so single it is!

My DS2 went into a normal sized single bed at 2.5 and we have a normal sized single duvet in a winter weight on him. Not sure of tog, but in summer he had a summer thin one and when the weather went colder he would wake up cold in the night. So i just got a normal winter weight one. We turn it side on though and tuck it in under the mattress both sides, so it doesn't fall off. He was in a Grobag from birth, so not used to staying under a duvet until fairly recently.

4.5 tog is fine here, with an unheated room, but I have a hot sleeper

BigusBumus · 18/11/2009 13:01

I should add that i have children that feel the cold very easily, as do i.

manchestermummy · 18/11/2009 13:02

Yeah, DD always seems toasty too. But 4.5 sounds cold to me! There again, I sleep under a 13.5-tog Hungarian goose down number all year round so I am no judge of these matters!

4.5 tog Ikea one here, on a toddler bed. And DD still kicks it off because she is too hot (rooms unheated at night). Obviously does not take after her father who has full thermal PJs on, 10.5 tog winter duvet, fleece blanket doubled over, and then sometimes puts his dressing gown on over top - he likes to sleep HOT I guess.

manchestermummy · 18/11/2009 13:06

Good Lord Lionstar! And I thought I liked to be warm in bed!

4.5 togs all round here (us and DS 2.7) and everyone is warm enough

Lionstar · 18/11/2009 13:27

I know it's ridiculous, and I have to share a bed with him - it's like sleeping next to a sofa! I am too hot as it is with a night-shirt and the 10.5 tog duvet. It gets worse when one or the other DC is in bed with me(there always seems to be one - I long for a whole night to myself in a clean bed and no night waking!)

BigusBumus · 18/11/2009 17:00

Manchestermummy, we are all under Hungarian Goose Down duvets too, but I think thats why DS is under the winter weight one, as it allows his body to still "breathe" ad feels really light, rather than getting all sweaty under a winter weight heavy polyester one.

Quick update - plumped for 4.5 tog in the end and last night DD slept like a log in her new bed. Thanks for all you help!
