Homemade wipes

I use cotton wool and water at change time both at home and when out and ran out of cotton wool at the weekend and tried disposable nappy liners, wow, they are fab, huge and seem to clean the poop better than the cotton wool.

I have been converted as they don't seem to get the odour damp cotton wool does and are cheaper.

Thats a good way to use up the rolls I have but never use then. I use cloth wipes now, but squares of kitchen paper do the trick too. But not the cheap stuff that falls apart.

I use washable ones too - good use for liners though! Can you imagine that advert with the blokes dressed as women where they squeeze out the kitchen roll after wiping the kitchen side, if they were wiping a bottom instead lol lol

Yes I use washable ones too - just cut up a fleece blanket from poundland and there you have it - even cheaper!

I think 'grip' is important too lol - fleece can be smeary!!

Cheap flannels and water here too. I've got two under two, so no nostalgia though

Octo - I have never had a problem with fleece wipes smearing. I do own lots of better wipes - like WN double sided etc but when I do use my fleece ones, I don't notice much difference in quality.

I'm sorry Jenny, I'm with Octo... you need a bit of grip when dealing with poo. Fleece is worse than baby wipes - smears it around and doesn't catch it. My wipes are all fleece on one side, fir softness, but terry toweling on the other for function.

I don't get how fleece can work as a wipe either - have tried them when my washable wipes are all in the wash but it just moves the poo around! Bamboo is my favourite from the UK WAHMs weenotions.co.uk/

My favourite are Jabula bamboo one side(grippy but soft) and minky the other (lovely when botty sore) I even use a set on myself as facial wipes instead of those packet ones.Bamboo for for exfoliating, minkee around eyes etc.
Fleece are ok as back up, but I find they dry out really quickly after soaking in solution.

I have just bought some lovely flanelette ones from the US - will take a pic for you.

I've used fleece as a last resort, but had no smeary issues. Tis newborn poo though.

Yes I have that, it's lovely for taking out. Anybody tried the So scrumptious Strawberry and mandarin ones? They sound delicious.

I agree that double sided ones are best, I love my minki/bamboo ones But I don't think fleece is bad if you want something on a budget, mine work perfectly well, but just arn't a luxtury like double ones. They do need to be quite wet though. DD2 has awful weaning poo and never have a smearing problem.

I use bamboo towelling wipes - the ones that match my pop-in nappies.
They're lovely. Agree that grip is needed. If you put them on the radiator to dry they go quite hard and scratchy and that's great for taking off dried on poo. [JOKING!]
I really struggle with bought baby wipes now - they slip around and I always always get poo on my hand. Maybe it's just me.

disp baby wipes are horrible things!

I agree, Octo, and I am convinced that there's a conspiracy - I can never ever get 1 wipe out, only 3 at a time.

Looking at that solution for wipes, has anyone tried the soap cube things on the same page?

I make up a box of wipes every couple of days (I use the pampers box I got from bounty and even make them dispense - it's a massive finger to pampers, I think ) but is that possible when out and about? Should I just use a spray or solution in a bottle? How do people do it?

That solution is meant to be the best one - loads of folk have mentioned it. I wet my wipes and take them out in a small monkeyfoot wet bag and then put them in the dirty wet bag when used. I don't use any chemicals on my lots skin as they get itchy. You could just use tea tree or lavender oil.

Nice tissue boxes are the same re number that come out - ploy to make you buy more!
