It was fine when ds was younger, would leave him in bouncy chair and make faces through the shower screen
But now he's a tornado toddler, he'll be hands down the loo, etc
So I was popping him in his cot with toys and books and having monitor in bathroom to keep an ear out and then was basically rush in, under shower, scrub rinse out
But now I'm trying to underline that cot is for sleeping, not playing...so don't want to do this really.
how do you do it?
Do I need to move my shower to evening after he's gone to bed?

DS 3.3 years has a talking book on in his bedroom and with dd I shut the door and leave her on the floor with a little basket of plastic bath toys. Stair gate across. When DS was little I used to have him in with me in the bathroom and then when he was a bit older he'd wander around upstairs and I made sure it was all safe. Usually he'd not go far and would stay in the bathroom.

I've given in and to the impossible logistics and always have an evening bath or shower. I have to be out of the house by 8am to get the older 2 to school / nursery and it's just impossible to have everyone ready unless I get up before 7am (pre 7am is the middle of the night as far as I'm concerned!). Sometimes I have a shower or wash my hair when the baby has his morning nap around 9.15, but I've been up and dressed for a couple of hours by then so it seems a bit ridiculous. When DC1 was a toddler I used to let her run riot upstairs (shut various doors and the stairgate then just let her potter around in what was a reasonably well childproofed space. Hands down loo happened less often than you'd think (although yes there may have been the odd occasion.....) as she had other things to be getting on with wrecking....

Another vote for just letting them trash the house (and possible each other) while I shower in blissful ignorance.

i used to put my son in his highchair and move it to the bathroom so i could watch him and talk to him knowing he was out of trouble and safe

I'm sorry I haven't read it BUT here's what I do with DD (22 months)
we start watching a DVD in my bedroom and then when she's into it. I go for my shower and explain to her what I'm doing and she's ok.

I childproofed our living room and put all her toys in there and a stairgate on the door.

For ages now I've just bathed with DS, 21mths, in the morning. He loves baths, particularly squirting me in the face with Squishy Fish .

However, now DS2, 1wk, has arrived I have no idea what I'm going to do when DP goes back to work.

Pinkmarshmallow · 06/11/2009 19:33

Reading this with interest, DD 8 months so happily sits in bouncer watching me while I shower in the morning. hadn't really thought about what will happen when she's too big for that. I like the idea of her showering with me....but....silly question alert... what do you do when you have AF????

tryingtoleave · 07/11/2009 12:59

DS (3) watches tv and DD (11 months) sits in the bathroom with me, playing with bath toys or pulling the few things I've left out of the drawers.

BiscuitStuffer · 07/11/2009 22:16

I pop them in the cot with the lights on, radio on and books and toys from a 'special bag' thrown in. The atmosphere is completely different to the sleeping one and then at the end of the shower, toddler removed and all toys and books go back in to the bag.

It seems to work quite well.

Bonsoir · 07/11/2009 22:18

Have a bath with your child.

Pinkmarshmallow · 09/11/2009 16:37

Am I the only one who gets AF?

Why does your period make any difference? Mooncup or tampon in so there'll be no bloodbath!

Pinkmarshmallow · 09/11/2009 16:49

errrm... the "red stuff" that trickles down...will the DC not want to know what it is??!!

Pinkmarshmallow · 09/11/2009 16:50

ah ok happyaccident. not a great fan of them though...

HappyAccident · 09/11/2009 17:13

What, mooncups or tampons or both? I didn't think anyone used towels these days.

But if it trickles and they ask what it is then just tell them. They will have to know one day.
