Would you let your 2.2 yo play upstairs, unsupervised but regularly checked, with your 6yo?

...just curious.

ChasingSquirrels · 28/09/2009 17:33

yes, I think so

PortAndLemon · 28/09/2009 17:33

Yes (assuming heavy furniture tethered to wall and blind cords out of reach).

ChasingSquirrels · 28/09/2009 17:36

mine are 3.4y apart, ds1 just 7y, ds2 3.8y - so am trying to remember 16mo ago when I had a 2.2yo and a 5.6yo.
I think I did, but then memory isn't overly reliable!

Yes I think I would (assuming they generally got on well together and would be unlikely to do each other harm of the sort where it would be better for me to be there sorting out all battles).

Themasterandmargaritas · 28/09/2009 17:38

Yes mine are 2.4 and 5 point something and they play alone upstairs. I go and check every now and again to make sure there hasn't been a pooping incident or any creative masterpieces on the wall.

mollymawk · 28/09/2009 17:39

I might not. But then I am an anxious type.

halfcut · 28/09/2009 17:40

yes

angrypixie · 28/09/2009 17:41

Yes, and do.

flier · 28/09/2009 17:42

if reg checked, yes. why?

spicemonster · 28/09/2009 17:45

With a 6 year old, yes as the age gap is too big to encourage mischief. With a 3 or 4 year old, probably not. Far too likely to get up to all kinds of mischief

suwoo · 28/09/2009 17:46

God, yes I do. Do other people not do this then?

MmeLindt · 28/09/2009 17:50

Yes, absolutely.

Word of advice though. Lock the bathroom door. Not so much worried about them hurting themselves so much as the chance of vaseline/expensive cosmetics being smeared all over the bathroom)

MmeLindt · 28/09/2009 18:00

DS came out of the bathroom with a cotton wool bud sticking out of each ear

DD smelt suspiciously of nail varnish remover

And they are 5 and 7yo so should know better, as should I.

GooseyLoosey · 28/09/2009 18:02

I would have and did let me 2.2yr old play with my 3.7 yr old but they are so loud that it is utterly impossible not to know what is going on for more than 5 minutes. Now they are 5 and 6, I find they require more supervision as silence means danger!

ramonaquimby · 28/09/2009 18:07

yes

Plonker · 28/09/2009 21:37

Sorry for the post and run, rl called.

Thanks for replies

I asked because my 2yo and 6yo (dd's 2 and 3) were playing happily upstairs (were being pop stars! ) and it occured to me that I wouldn't have been happy leaving dd's 1 and 2 up there when dd2 was only 2 years old, and I wondered if perhaps I was getting a little too lax relaxed in my parenting.

Seems I'm not, or at least, if I am, then lots of you are too

Yes I do, but they make a terrible mess in my room so have fitted a bolt high up on the door.

I actively encourage them to play up there sometimes for a bit of peace and quiet.

If things go quiet that is when I go and check them because thats when they are naughty.

Rosebud05 · 28/09/2009 21:40

I would but would use a baby monitor so that I could just keep an ear out.

Bramshott · 28/09/2009 21:41

Oh good Lord yes - I do every day !

mwff · 28/09/2009 21:42

absolutely, but it usually only lasts about 5 minutes before i have to go and break up one screaming match or another...

onepieceoflollipop · 28/09/2009 21:43

Yes I do and I was pleased to see this thread because I often wonder if it was ok.

Mine are a similar age gap and play very nicely together most of the time, it is lovely to listen to them especially now the little one interacts more with her sister. dd1 knows that she has to keep the stair gate shut if they are upstairs, also no door slamming as we have had some near misses.

Good tip from Rosebud re the monitor. Also I do tend to hide make up and dd1 knows that certain items (bloody felt tip pens for example!!) have to be out of dd2's reach.

GothMummy · 28/09/2009 23:08

Well yes....assuming I could hear what was going on and had put bathroom cleaning chemicals and other hazardous things away.

colditz · 28/09/2009 23:09

yes assuming environment secured.

alwayslookingforanswers · 28/09/2009 23:09

yes and do
