DS has obsession with opening and closing doors any ideas to stop it?

He is 16m and is constantly opening and closing them. I've tried wedging them open and shut and pushed the stepper up against one to keep it open but he moves it. Is there anything I can do apart from taking off the doors?

??? Have you tried a door stopper on the top of the door - the kind that you push onto the top of the door - like a wedge - so that when the door closes it won't be able to close?

I've got one and will get some more, have yours trapped fingers in them at all? I was thinking some kind of oojamabob to keep it open or closed eg for the vestibule thing and the kitchen door. I've used one of those hook and eye things but he shakes the door til the hook comes out. Little imp.

ha, when we moved into this house with our one year old, I was very amused that the mum of 3 who lived here previously had removed the downstairs doors, for this very reason. Of course we asked them to replace their doors before we moved in. Then we had another baby. Then we had 2 boys CONSTANTLY slamming doors repeatedly, all day. Every day. Ugh. No advice, but they did grow out of it eventually. I had a key for one of the doors, was a godsend till ds1 slotted it between the floorboards.....

A thick towel over the top of the door will stop him getting his fingers caught.

Geraldine, that's brilliant. The doors here are ALL warped and don't shut properly and have the heating pipes covered by conduit right behind them so they don't open fully.

Have never had problems with fingers getting caught with door stops on tops of doors - towels work just as well, as TOTE mentioned. And my two 3-yr old twin boys are forever slamming the doors on each other if I haven't got the stoppers on!

towels over the doors - GENIUS! Wish I had thought of that when I was in door hell!

I've seen some things you screw into the wall and door but they don't look like they'll do the job with DS's strength.

my ds is the same ,and a pal of mines dd1 16 m can open the door even with the catchers on

I've even put balloons on the handles of the doors that needed to be kept shut. He was scared of them until before then started messing with them.

Only other thing I can recommend is locks on doors - situated high up - operational from both sides of the door - we've got one on the kitchen door to keep them out when mummy/daddy is cooking. But if you want DC to have the run of the house, then not such a good idea!

I would use them but the doors are warped (rented house and been waiting since MAY to hear from Landlord to sort out the jobs) and bow out at the top. I think I know which locks you mean, the key is star shaped?

I cant cos of the bowing. Are rubber wedges any good? I cant find any in Wilkinson.

what about hooks to hook door open? A hook on back of door that attatches to the wall, so that it keeps the door open, iyswim? Or a hook or something on the wall that you could tie the door handle to with string or something??

The string bit could work. If I attach the hook in the skirting board and and something similar on the door but tie it together with string? I'll give that a go thanks! Fatty cant undo knots yet
