Whinging driving me mad. How do you cope? Not sure I can.

DD is only 15 months and mostly an absolute delight but I just cannot abide her frequent whinging.
I know that it'snot her fault but it really presses my annoyance button and Ive snapped at her to stop it a few times this week.
Any other suggestions. It dosn't help that I'm knackered and finding single motherhood a bit meh at the moment.

Sorry can't help. My DD's are 9 and still excellent at whinging! Eventually you learn to tune it out - it's all white noise to me now (although drives my DH mad).

If I had a penny for every time I say "use a normal voice please", I'd be typing this on a keyboard made of gold. (My DS is 3)

My son is 3 and when he whinges I do an impression of him and then ask if its a nice noise. I'm not saying it works every time, but I have to tell myself I'm trying something!

I used to say "ok- now can you tell me in a normal voice, please"

My DD is 7 and still whinges for Britain! I don't listen to her, and she'll then stop and talk in a normal voice.
I'm sure by the time she's 20 she'll have stopped!

I just say I don't understand whinging and ask DD to speak in a normal voice. But so far she hasn't learnt to stop whinging altogether and I can't see it happening any time soon.

I agree with you, poshsinglemum, the whining really grates. The only thing that works on my 20mth old is distraction: a snack (bowl of chopped fruit or raisins), a drink, Cbeebies, dvd, book, crayons and paper etc. A change of scenery is good too so we go in the garden or upstairs to play if we're staying in.

Ds does this. Sooooo annoying. I always tell him I cannot hear if he uses that whiney voice. I can only hear if he speaks in his normal voice. I keep on doing whatever I am doing until he speaks properly. It does work (mostly) but it is still enormously irritating!

Say "Mummy can't hear whining." And repeat.

And repeat.

And repeat.
