Own Room

Just curious when did you start putting you babes in their own room my DD is 5 months now and am considering it, is it too early or have i left it too long? Hello everyone by the way only just joined up

Everyone puts babes in their own room at different times, which ever suits you. I waited till they were sleeping through, which luckily for me was between 8 and 9 weeks, for both of them.

Thanks DD has slept through from about the same too so think it's about time or she still will be there when she is going to school!!

I think my two went in their own rooms at about five months but as hotmummy says it depends on how you feel. I do think that at about 6-7 months they will be so aware of having you in the same room it will be harder to make the break.

I put DD into her own room when she was 2.5 years old!
DS went into DD's room when he was 6 months old.

Thanks for that, i'm finding it so difficult to make the break its lovely waking up in the morning and seeing her next to me!!

If my DP got his way i dont think she would ever go in her own room!!

Bless, I know what you meant hough about seeing them in the morning. I love walking into DS room when he wakes up he just sits there talking away to himself or stands at the end of his cot chattering on, then looks as you with a big "Good morning " smile and holds his hands up. It is sooo cute.t

My son has been sleeping in his own room since he was 3 weeks old.

my ds is 6 weeks old now but snores like he's 60. I never knew ickle babies are sooo noisy in bed. May have to move him into his room soon as is going through dp's earplugs!

She was one. B/c that was when we moved to a two-bed flat. She is a heavy sleeper, but she's quite loud and even talks in her sleep.

She always wakes up in a lovely mood, however, and entertains herself with her cuddlies for some time before calling for us.

FSID advice (cot death people) - 6 months.

What did people do before "FSID", WHAT ALL THE BABIES DIES?

SORRY FOR CAPS BUT GOT TO SAY THIS LOUD. I THINK THAT THERE IS TOO MUCH REGULATION IN THE SOCIETY THAT WE ARE LIVING IN NOW. TODAY THEY TELL YOU SOLIDS AT 4 MONTHS TOMORROW AT 6 MONTHS.

TODAY BABY ON TUMMY TOMORROW NEVER ON TUMMY. ONE DAY MMR IS SAFE NEXT IT IIS NOT. BREASTFEED TO 6 MONTHS. NO COWS MILK FOR FIRST YEAR (YET FORMULA MILK IS MADE USING COWS MILK)

WHEN WILL MOTHERS LEARN THAT ALL NATURE INTENNDS IS FOR YOU TO LISTEN TO YOURSELF AND YOUR BABY.

blimey err yes well after that rant Ill just pop into say that dd was 13mnths but that was because we have dss to say etw and we all needed time to adjust to a new baby esp him (hes 13). But Id say its best when YOU feel comfortable with it TBH.

My DS went in from being in his mosses basket next to me to being in his cot in his own room at 12 weeks. I still have to get up at least once to feed and settle him when he wakes (02.20 is his fave time atm )

I am up once a night when he is good but up to 3 or 4 when he is not. he is 8 weeks old today.

No Norash, before Sids - simply more babies died. If you're happy for your child to be one of those stastics, then that's your choice - ignore all the advice. As for the rest of us... I think its nothing other than using our knowledge to make sensible judgements to make our children as safe as possible.

After all, according to your logic... what happened before Car seats and seat belts? Did all children who went in cars die? No, but a hell of a lot more did... and who nowadays would say, "Oh don't worry about putting your baby in a car seat / Seat belt, they never did it before!"

No one ever claims to have infinite wisdom, so as human's we're always learning - that does mean that our knowledge is fallible, but it is constantly improving, and sometimes that means we have to review our previous ideas... but that's not a bad thing, its progress! After all, if we didn't review and reject old ideas on the basis of new knowledge we'd all still think the earth was flat!!

I'm one of those 'heartless' mothers who put their babies straight in to their own rooms. DS never slept in our room unless he was unwell.

And to substantiate my claims:

An Analysis of Sids deaths before and after the big campaign of 1990 - 1993:

Deaths Before the campaign (1986 - 1990): 8,147

Deaths after the campaign (1993 -1998): 2,776

These stats were published in an academic journal - the BMJ and research done in conjunction with the Royal College of Paediatrics and child health, published in 2004.

I am sorry I just don't get how putting the baby in another room is a risk factor in cot death. As long as you make sure they are in the cot/crib coorrectly and there is nothing that they can smoother themselves wit. I am not being heartless but i do believe that what will happen will happen (in regards to cot death and sleeping in seperate rooms.) regardless. I do understand why babies shouldn't sleep in the same bed as there parents and this to me is the biggest cause, as most of the babies I have heard about dying in cot death have/where in the beds sleeping with there parent/s.
