If you have no family nearby and no friends you can call on for childcare

what do you do?

Not that I have no friends, obviously, just none that don't work during the day! DS is 3.5 months old and I am having some health issues so am going to be having quite a few doctor's appointments over the next few months.

DH has just started a new job, so he really can't take time off to look after DS while I am at the doctor. Obviously I can take DS with me, he's so young he won't notice what's going on, but it certainly isn't ideal.

What I need is someone I can call on an ad hoc basis for a few hours here and there, but how do I find someone like that?

So what do you do if you have no family nearby and no friends to call on when you need your DCs looked after?

2 DC came with me for a cervical smear (they were respectively 2yo and 2 months old). Not ideal, but had no choice!!

I am in a similar position to the OP, and have taken DS to all my medical appointments with me. DH works away a lot, so he can't often cover for me even if I get the first/last appt of the day. DS even came to my smear test!

DS is a year old and is happy enough in his pushchair for a while as long as he had toys, grapes and cheese. And it is amazing how many Dr's receptionists make good ad-hoc babysiters!

That young, I'd take with me. only appointment I was told not to bring baby too was an MRI scan, justifiably so as I was strapped to machine for about 30 incredibly noisy mins. But baby came to various physio appts and untra sound stuff strapped in pushchair with something to amuse him. (snack pot, once he was old enough).
Alternatively- Childminder or another parent from any mums and tots type stuff you do, just be prepared to return the favour OR offer cake.
