When is too old to take toy to bed

Because I am not sure if my 8 year old should still be doing this but he is
He still has a thing for stuffed toys as well wanting to buy them with his pocket money.
Please is he too old or do other 8 year olds do this as well.
He is certainly tough enough otherwise and is a typical boy so should I worry or not.

DP still cuddles his teddy because I can't sleep and cuddle

RustyBear · 03/09/2009 22:50

DS's favourite teddy accompanied him to and from university every term for the last three years. Now he's back home & Clinton is still on/in his bed.

The original Rusty Bear (see profile)at 48 years old is a little too venerable to risk being lain upon, so he sits in a miniature rocking chair on the bedside table.

My super sophisticated 13 year old still takes her bear and he monkey to bed every night. And tough footy-playing 8 year old ds has the biggest collection of cuddlies I've ever seen! He brings an armful of them when he crawls into our bed at 4 in the morning!

My girl has two favourite cuddly toys, sadly they are both too big to take on school trip next week. She'll have to make do with scary hare rather than Tina or Elli, she's already getting a bit anxious about this so practiced with scary last night.

I think it is lovely to hear all the fabulously original names people have for their cuddlies

So obviously named by small children - or sleep deprived parents - Mr Mouse, Pinky etc ... Mind you, my Panda is just that. Panda. There was also Lady Panda and Baby Panda, but Panda is Panda!

well my DH is 36 and still sleeps with a toy pig.

When he moved over to Oz for 3 months before we married I was instructed I had to bring it with me as hand luggage as he couldnt settle without it

Does that answer your question?!!

My 9 yr old goes to bed with 4 penguins, 1 bear, 1 tiger, a seal, a puffin, a couple of sheep, two cats, a rat and as many Bionicles as I will let him get away with.

There is not much room for boy...

cyteen · 04/09/2009 13:02

I agree with the poster who said life's tough enough! This is why I have no shame in cuddling up to Drunken Bear when I'm alone in bed

deaddei · 04/09/2009 19:18

My soon to be a teenager dd wants nothing for her birthday than a bear from the bear factory!
She loves cuddly toys, and still plays games with them.

IdrisTheDragon · 04/09/2009 19:27

DH is 34 and has Rhino

We're all saying the same, but just to add that my 10 year old son (and older sister)still love their special teddies, and I think it just demonstrates what loving natures they have. Why should boys be taught to lose the cuddly soft side of themselves?

lizziemun · 04/09/2009 19:45

Mum's just turned 60 and she just thrown her pillow away, which she had all her life.

She even used to take it camping with us when we were kids.

PinkTulips · 04/09/2009 19:48

I still have Edward Bear, he lives on the chair atm as babies chew on him and we're co-sleeping with ds2 but normally he's in the bed somewhere, he's a great pregnancy support pillow for a bump

LIZS · 04/09/2009 19:48

never!

Acinonyx · 04/09/2009 22:31

I am in my 40s and have only now passed on Big Bunny and others to dd. I had a pretty hot bf in my 20s who still went to bed with his teddy!

2rebecca · 04/09/2009 23:03

My 13 year old son still has a couple of soft toys that end up in his bed when he's not well, my husband hasn't forgiven his mother for chucking most of his out and has hung on to a battered teddy (that doesn't sleep with us I hasten to add). My kids just gradually reduced the number of soft toys and whether they got taken on holiday, to other parent etc. I think it sad it's seen as OK for girls to hang on to soft toys but not for boys and think it's nice when my son expresses his cuddly side.

mumeeee · 04/09/2009 23:04

Never 2 old. DD1 is 22 and married. She has just come to stay with us for a few days ( her DH couldn't come) and has bought her teddy with her.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 04/09/2009 23:12

When we went on school trips at secondary school boys and girls all brought teddies from home so never too old I reckon.
