There must be an easier way of finding that crucial piece of Lego that doesn't involve searching through to huge boxes of assorted pieces.

We put the lego in a large flat underbed storage box so the lego is only 2-3 pieces deep it still takes a little rifling but generally you can easily see what you want to find.

We have it in one box, but have a massive plastic tray thing (I think its for butchers!!) where DS can spread all the bits out when getting creative.

How do you find the tall ones mila? I'm worried he would try to climb it! Are they quite sturdy?

My mum bought DS the playmobil pirate ship for his birthday, he adores it. I, on the other hand, am finding I like it less each day! Why do they make things so tiny!? Gold coins, thousands of them!

If you drop a bit on the floor and can't find it, the tried and tested method is to walk across the floor in your bare feet in the dark.

Works every time, with lego and playmobil!

They have fixings to attach to the wall, really work,to be honest they're v heavy when full anyway. They're very solid, I love mine, they take up so little actual floor space but hold masses.

All of my trofast trays are labelled .
But i'm a CM, so I've got an excuse. The Care Commission loves it .

Must admit we have far too much lego and although we started off with just a large see through plastic storage box we then had a set of plastic drawers and then increased to two sets of drawers like these - lego sorted into: flats (two drawers of) small odds, larger odds, even larger odds, clear window things, tecnic, car things, slopes, minifigures and accessories etc. However, lego has grown again recently and all the 'normal' bricks have been evicted into yet another large plastic storage box.
Must admit it's a pain when models are taken apart and all the bits are put away, but makes it so much easier to find.

Hmmm, I think its time we took a trip to ikea!
Although, usually when we go all I come back with is some odd gadget I didnt know I needed until I saw it and the urge to have another baby!

DameEdnaAverage · 02/09/2009 14:56

oooh. That scraping and crunching noise of hand rifling through a big box of lego is the soundtrack to my childhood - along with the satisfaction of finally finding that elusive piece of missing lego. I wouldn't change it for the world

We got a probably temporary but doing quite well solution earlier on here.

We all spent about 1.5 hours sorting all Lego out into different colours. Quite therapeutic .

if its REALLY bad, just order teh right bit from Lego shop on line, probadly quicker than serching teh boxes and under teh bed, and down teh back of teh sofa for it

Just found this thread - DS3 aged 4 has inherited vast collections of Lego from older siblings and cousins. Love some of the storage ideas!

My top tip is sticking bits that are the same size together. He doesnt care about colours but loves following instructions for vintage Star Wars bought 10 years ago for which I KNOW we havent got all the bits. But if he can find the right shape piece even in a different colour he is happy.

Also loves making his own designs but it still helps that he can find the shapes he wants.

But even after hours of happy sorting (me) and building (him) we still have a huge box of unsorted lego for just plain rummaging through....
