My son is 12 this week and is BEGGING me for WOW. I say Definitely Too Young- he says (the old chestnut) All My Friends Are On It.

I doubt that very much-I doubt their parents would let em, also that they have time to play it...but does anyone else have any experience of this game and young teens?

If I don't respond is cos I'm just rushing out now..thanks for any help. I'll be back later!

No, I think he was referring to WoW...

I asked ds what it wasn, he said "don't play that, it's really violent", he's 10. Warhammer is much better.

WoW is really unsuitable for kids. Most raiding is done in the evening and into the night so your DS would always be pushing to stay online later and longer so that he could participate fully in the game.

I used to run a guild on the lord of the rings MMO which is much more family friendly, and we had a few kids that were members. We used to cut out the swearing and make sure they weren't chatting to anyone unknown in the game and plan some raids for weekend afternoons but I think we were very much the exception rather than the rule even there.

NO, For the Love of God. NO!
It takes up so much of their time. (It's the only thing I've considered leaving DH over.)
There is a lot of pressure to stay on late if you are in a group or whatever and trying to get a dungeon or 'Nax' finished or whatever they are up to.
Because they get stuck in these things it is difficult to limit time. (DH now has certain nights he can play)But you get 'only another 10 mins or so' and half an hour later they're still there because they 'didn't kill get the Boss in the last Nax' or some equally incomprehensible answer.

Warhammer and WoW are exactly teh same violence wise IME. In fact they are more or less exactly teh sanme full stop.

Just been watching the South Park WoW episode.

Have to say it does look a bit FUN (WoW, I mean)

I wouldn't dare have it in the house...there are five of us here- two of us are five year olds and the other 3 are impressionable idiots with absolutely no self control

it is fun really - I like the early stages with a new character (ie when it is really easy - lazy person that I am).

WoW has more "cartoony" characters and scenery etc which I prefer - I find the characters and graphics in warhammer online a bit dismal somehow.

hehe

seriously though people always say to me on wow 'ahh when can ds have his own account' (he's two and a half ) to which I say 'when he can pay his subscription'. I don't think it is really a good game for 12 year olds to be playing tbh, given the addictive qualities, the fact most guilds are evening-focused, it is a reasonably violent game (world or WARcraft afterall) and frankly some of the people that play are vile and abusive and while they can be ignored so you don't see their messages, I still wouldn't want a 12yr old exposed to some of the stuff I see in the chat channels on wow.

he he mindalina..thought did cross my mind that if I let him play now he'll still be here when he's 40
