I'm starting Uni this year and am just starting to get nervous now.

The biggest obstacle for me is getting dd (2.10) settled at nursery as she's never been into a childcare setting before.

Once that's all sorted out I should be a lot less nerve wracked

I would like to join.

I am starting uni at the end of Sept. Am completing a Prep for History course and hopefully starting my degree in 2010.

Have started my reading and got my sylabus, ad am about to get my study space in order and draw up a timetable.

I work part time (3 days) and have full time nursery places for my 2 DSs 3 and 20 months should I need to use the full time provision.

The Wolf... I am sure dd will settle fine, DS1 started around that time and was so ready. Fingers crossed. What will you be studying.

Mistiek... cograts on starting your Nursing degree. I met a lovely mum on here who has done what i plan to do and she had a baby in her 3rd year and still done fabulously. Her advice to me was just plan plan plan and dont expect any free time.

Hi all,

I am starting at the end of this month too.

I did an access course and started my degree last year. My children were 1 and 3 then. However, with both me and DP being students we could not afford the childcare. Plus as my ds had been in nursery since he was a baby and my daughter starting school the following year i had a really guilty feeling and needed to spend some time with them. so I had to pull out of my Degree they gave me leave of abscence and I re-start my first year 21st Sept.

My dc are now 2 and 4 and my 4yr old starts school in 2 weeks. My son is going to a full time nursery.

I hope that it will work out this time as now i have one less child to pay the nursery for. I am getting quite nervous as I did 2 months of the degree last year and it was HARD!!!!!!

I think what we have to remember as students who have children is that University is hard at the best of times but having children makes it seem impossible sometimes. However as long as we go into our studies knowing this there will be no nasty shocks and when the hard times come we just ride them and hold on tight.

I got through my Access course which was really intense with a baby and a toddler so it is possible (trying to convince myself

Mistiek my friend is now entering her second year on a nursing degree she also has two children aged 3 and 5 now. She has definetley found it hard but has succeded all the same and she does not even have a dh.

Good luck everyone

oh and mixedmamameansbusiness you sound sooooooooo organised maybe you can help me along the way. I am not sure its capable to succeed as a student with children if you are not organised, unfortunately I do not seem to have many organisational skills

Hi everyone. Excellent idea for a thread. I'm starting a Law coversion course on 21 Sept. I'm excited about getting back into education (I graduated with a BA in English in 2003) but also a bit nervous about how I'll manage.

My daughter is 18 months old, and as I'm doing the course over two years rather than one I'll be in two days a week. She's off to nursery for one day a week, and my MIL is coming down for one day a week.

I'm going to have to take in some freelance work still to keep the bills paid, so don't forsee much free time in the next few years...

Good luck everyone!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 03/09/2009 20:20

msdevine - i am organised in theory. In reality I bet I will be a mess.

My course is like access but actually at the university and specific to the History degree they offer.

I will be doing evening university but that wont kick in till next year so am trying to just be calm this year since I am able to complete in the daytime, thanks to understanding bosses.

I was very good at essays and stuff at school but after so long I wonder if I still have the natural ability IYKWIM as that will take some pressure off, althouh these days I cant even spell most of the time.

I am sure we will all be great and I always find MN treads a great way o find likeminded people to help eahc other through.

Thought I would bump

Rochel4 · 25/12/2009 01:48

mistiek-
i'm applying now for a nursing degree, i have 4DCs, and wonderi ng if i'll be able to cope. just wondering, where do you all find time to spend with t
he kids? it must
be knackering!
btw, can you advise me on w
hat to write foir my personal statement?

mixedmamameansbusiness · 26/12/2009 11:04

Rochel, I find I have to actually really plan every minute... even down to between 3pm - 7.30pm Kids, dinner etc. I try to make that time completely for them. But I find if I deviate from my timetable (which inevitably happens from time to time) it does take me a while to get it back on track.

I plan things with the kids so that the time I actually spend with them is really well used. Even if we "plan" to watch a film.

Meal plan etc.

Just be really really organised.
