What is your 9-10 yr old DS doing in the summer holidays...?

• swimming (but with us - do you drop yours off at the pool and pick up later? )

Too old for 'young stuff' and too young for 'teen stuff'

Am really struggling this summer to keep him happy/ busy....

football club

trampolining in garden

bike ride twice week in local forest.

friends round to play plus him to theirs.

family holiday plus camping with friends.

plus xbox/playstation of course

Yes Chablis (great name) seems about right- although he now walks to local pool which is great. This free swimming is a godsend- my dd has been every morning to swim 40 lengths......
He's also doing half an hour of 11 plus work a day..I know, it's the hols, but believe me,with the selective schools we have here, he needs to. At least he's not having his tutor in the hols. That's a whole new thread..maybe I'll start one.

DS turned 11 in June but he's been doing similar sorts of things for the last few years.

• Cricket - both watching and playing
• Having friends over/going over theirs
• Reading
• Playing guitar/drums/singing
• He and his mates ride their bikes up the park but it's only about 5 minutes away and I only let him go if there's going to be more than 3 or 4 of them
• I don't let him go the cinema alone because our local cinema is on a pretty dodgy "Entertainment Park" type place with clubs and arcades, and there are some fairly dodgy characters there
• Playing on the computer/XBox/Wii

If I had a 9/10 year old they would be dressing up head to toe in pink and pretending to be a penis.

Right, my DS, to be 10 in August has so far:

Played with friends (at their house or here)
Gone swimming (I go too but he heads off to the leisure lagoon whilst I swim lenghts or entertain 6 year old dd)
Played on the computer (runescape mostly)
Played on the playstation
Spelling and handwriting practice
Cycled into town with me (half hour there, half hour back, had lunch there as a treat)
Has visited the Maize Maze at Wisley Garden
Played endless lego
Is playing tennis for 1.5hrs every morning next week (tennis course)
Plays in the garden or on our trampoline
Oh yes, and annoying his little sister

Ooh - what was the Wisley maze like? We were thinking of going there, but I've usually found Wisley not particularly child friendly?

(Also go to Tulley's Farm maze which is v. good, so a hard act to follow!)

Alternating between grumbling about how he hasn't got anything to do and grumbling about how he doesn't want to do anything I suggest or organise

Lol - I am being lazy mooching on MN and Facebook. I really should be getting dressed as we have ds3's friend coming over at 11am and I am not dressed yet!!

We have done trips out to various places too when the weather has been good.

chablis, the Wisley Maze was small and a tad disappointing. It is certainly absolutely nothing like the Tulley's maze which we love.
But it was local-ish and a way to spend a day (the actualy maze took 10 minutes but the walking around Wisley took up the rest of the day )

Wisley is getting more child-friendly - they have dotted some fab wicker fruitshaped seats/sculptures around the place which the dc loved, they have built a 'fruit mount' which is basically a hill with a look-out platform, in the greenhouse there is a 'root zone' all geared to children and they are building a playground.

Any good advice you could suggest? I am beginning to get fed up of washing lots of soiled underwear.
