When i had my ds 11 years ago there seemed to be an almost anti boys culture - in the news there as stuff re boys being behind girls educationally, but also a few mothers seemed amost to pity me because i hada boy and said things to each other like - im glad ive got a girl now i can relax etc...anyone elso similar?

I also detest this phrase: "boys are more cuddly!"

????

All my kids are cuddly at different times, for different reasons!

the fact that suicide is the commonest cause of death in young men (16-35) is a pretty clear indicator that all is not well societally (that's not a real word is it?)

although think the rates have fallen recently?

It is funny how hung up we are on gender (as a society, I mean). Parenting any child, of either sex, is simply bloody hard work at all sorts of ages, in all sorts of situations and for all sorts of reasons.

We've had a quite a trying day at this end and I can't wait for Christmas so that I can have lots of post-pregnancy gin !

Dear god, my girl is far and away the worst of the 3 SmallDragons.

thing is, that the opposite probably holds true amongst the male half of the population so it evens out. I bet fathers of girls get ribbed about being in a nest of hormones or not having a boy to play football with etc etc.

I adore my boys who are 11 and 13 butthis really made me laugh

From that article:

"I felt anxious that he'd catch a brain-eating disease that would retard him even further than being male."

That's not so much funny, as sexist and disgusting coming from a woman who apparently only has male children.

well hats off to her for constructing a sentence that is horribly offensive in so many ways at once

UnquietDad · 04/08/2009 12:53

What a lovely person she sounds. Imagine if a dad had said that about his daughter.

lemonmuffin · 04/08/2009 13:25

Gosh she sounds bitter.

scrummymum · 04/08/2009 15:15

I have one of each and both of them are equally challenging and lovely.

My sister has just had a baby girl. All through her pregnancy when around my 18 month old ds, she said 'oh, I hope this one isn't a boy as your ds is into everything'. Obviously her memory is rubbish as my dd definitely had her moments. She is now got that SMOG look as I am chasing ds around the room. I don't think she thinks at all that her dd will be doing that in a few months.

My MIL also says that boys are more loving. What rubbish!!! My dd loves cuddling and snuggling up to you on the sofa. My ds only likes it when he wants it which is hardly ever.
