Any homeopaths here? DS may have swallowed Caulophyllum 200c accidentally...

Just found my labour preparation bottle of caulophyllum 200c Homeopathic remedy open on the floor with several of the little tablets lying next to it. Saw him chewing/sucking a few mins earlier but assumed it was the remains of our sushi. Am not panicking but wondering if anyone can advise if we should expect a level of disturbance/ill effects esp as 200c is such a high dose.

thanks!

believes in it but without appearing to know an awful lot about it.... that's the irony....

Dear OP

The other posters are telling you that homeopathic medicine is water. That's because it is water. Surely that should reassure you that your DS will come to no harm? Can't see what you're complaining about.

madwomanintheattic · 23/07/2009 12:25

can i mention something that is faintly amusing?

when i gave birth in germany, in the hospital it was standard to give you homeopathic remedy to help you through the trauma of labour... in. the. hospital.

madness, i tell you. (no gas and air, like, but you can have a teensy sugar ball to pop under your tongue....mmm, that's better....)

i wonder if this is the same stuff....

(on a more herbal note,(?) they stuff newborns with fennel tea for the same reason... cue hordes of britishers baying like lunatics about wanting to bf, and attempting to hurl their battered bodies in between the approaching bottle of fennel and their yowling newborns...)

i tried canada for the next birth. fancied a change.

You really should not laugh at someone elses beliefs.

If the OP is into homeopothy then theres nothing wrong with that, taking the piss is just rude.

kathyis6incheshigh · 23/07/2009 12:54

See I disagree with that Disenchanted. The fact that someone believes something does not make it sacred. You shouldn't laugh at people, but some beliefs are silly and deserve to be mocked.

jybay · 23/07/2009 13:29

Disenchanted3 "You really should not laugh at someone elses beliefs".

Oh come off it! What about witchcraft, fascism, female genital mutilation or the BNP? There are many people who believe passionately in those things.

The idea that all beliefs are equal is not just a silly cop out, it's dangerous.

trellism · 23/07/2009 13:55

Disenchanted, no, you shouldn't laugh, but the other posters had also clearly stated that the OP's DS was unlikely to suffer any other ill effects apart from a sugar rush. The point is that she was worried and the other posters have reassured her.

They are absolutely correct when they say that the tablets contain no active ingredients whatsoever. I'd happily swig the whole bottle to prove it and I'm 26 weeks pg myself.

Homeopathic pills are harmless, unless the DS concerned is allergic to lactose (which is the main constituent of the pills). Then I'd be a bit worried.

spk76 · 23/07/2009 14:02

What about the sushi! Raw fish just lying around for god knows how long!!!

egilman · 23/07/2009 16:39

The larger question is this. Why post about it rather than going directly to the ER? If the pills were not homeopathic and actually had active ingredients, there could have been serious problems.

Homeopathic pills are harmless. Tim Minchin addresses this beautifully in "storm"

cthea · 23/07/2009 18:39

How's the DS? And his pg mum now she sees the funny side of it?

HarrytheDON · 24/07/2009 22:16

i didn't realise gay people had their own medicine
