Incompetent Cervix - anyone with second child?

I've got incompetent cervix and after having 2 losses (both at around 19 weeks of pregnancy), and a cervical cerclage (stitch) put in, we've had a baby girl who is now almost 2. We are now planning a second child - are there any mums with the same condition who are pregnant with their second baby or anyone who already had their second baby having had a cervical cerclage? How was it second time around? Was it difficult having to rest with a toddler in tow? etc. etc. etc.

Hi, I am pregnant with my first child with this condition. The hospital have been keeping a close eye on me but did not put in a cerclage as my last measurement was 4.5 and seemed perfectly fine. Then last week when my cervix was measured it has reduced to 2.2, so I am signed off work and being told to rest. I am due to go back to hospital next week and I am dreading it incase it has shortened and they need to admit me, I will be 27 weeks. I have had much support from my wonderful friends and family but wondered if anyone else has been through this and could offer some support??

Hello
Slightly different circumstances, but thought you'd be pleased to have a positive story:
I had a shortening cervix picked up at my 20week scan with twins. I was put on progesterone and scanned weekly. When my cervix kept shortening they put a stitch in at 22 1/2 weeks, and I stayed on almost bedrest for the rest of the pregnancy. My twins were born by elective section at 38weeks.
I know it's terribly worrying, but it's good that they're keeping an eye on you. When they decided I did need the stitch they were able to do it the next day, so they'll act quickly if they think they need to.
I hope that helps a bit. Take care, and if there's anything specific I can help with just ask.

Hi Jass,
It is good to hear a positive story! I know they have to be extra careful with twins don't they as they put even more pressure on your poor cervix!
I have been to the hospital today and there is no change so i've just to carry on as I am, but still no work or heavy lifting etc. I was surprised to hear today that some hospitals don't even keep an eye on the cervix and Leicester is one of the few hospitals that has a premature prevention clinic purely for this condition. It makes me wonder if I am being overly cautious although they don't seem to think so.......It is difficult as there is no clear instructions, I just have to keep hoping he doesn't arrive and life is on hold. Are your babies both healthy and well? Glad it worked out for you :-)

My Mum went on to have 4 more kids after a badly handled (euphamism..) first birth in the 70s..

I think it seems very touch and go with the whole cervix thing. I am vast coming to the conclusion that it may just be a cautionary thing and maybe I don't need to be as worried as I am? Most hospitals don't even measure the cervix!
Even though my cervix is still short the consultant doesn't want to see me for 4 weeks now....which worried me. I asked her opinion on going to a wedding in Scotland where my partner is best man and she very much left it up to me so I am unsure realistically as to what the risks are that I will go into labour.

I don't know the details, but do know someone who sadly lost her first child at about 24 weeks because of this. She went on to have two full term healthy babies (stitches and c sections both times), so it can be done!

I have a very good friend who had incompetent cervix in her first and second pregnancies. She did end up on bedrest for many weeks with her second pregnancy, even though she had had a stitch put in. But bedrest (and drugs I think - but she is abroad) staved off labour until about 37 weeks I think, and she had a healthy baby.

The whole bedrest thing was very tough on her DH and older child, but they got through it somehow! I think family help was needed quite a lot.
